Introduction: Hello, I'm Alicja!
-
Hello! I'm excited to finally be joining the SVS community after spending quite a few months just listening to the illustration podcast.
I'm Alicja and I'm a college senior studying Graphic Design, however I've recently wanted to pour all my time and energy into pursuing children's book illustration. Growing up, I've been shaped by the children's book I've read, and now as an adult I'm able to appreciate the subtle storytelling techniques and elements that working illustrators are able to convey in their work- not to mention illustrating is the kind of day job I've always wanted to have. I'm excited to start taking the classes offered through SVS, brush up on my skills, and learn from everyone here in the SVS community!
The illustration work I create now is traditional. I lean more towards watercolors, colored pencils, and ink as my artistic weapons of choice and hope to learn more about digital painting.
Recently, I've started posting daily paintings on my instagram account. They are a way for me to play with colors, form and shape. Some are more narrative then others but the goal for this project was to get me into the habit of creating work daily. A few of them are shown below:
This piece I'm hoping to revisit because I want to more accurately depict a thunderstorm in the distance.
This one is a crop of a work I created last summer when I was exploring watercolors and pencil, and using negative space in a more interesting way.
I'm looking to learn as much as I can in order to finally put together an illustration portfolio that would get my foot in the door as an illustrator. Nice to meet you all.

@Alicja-W
Welcome Alicja! I was suprised but my favorite work of yours is the last one -I like the space and perspective you have created. Pencil crayon and watercolour is fun to mix. Also like the second last one
.

Thanks Heather! The last two pieces were ones I put more thought and care into so I'm glad you liked them most

Welcome to SVS. Iβm new here too, I really like your style and use of neutral colours.
Canβt wait to see how your work develops

Thanks Sarah! I love the tattoos you've designed and how boldly you use your strokes. I'm excited to see how you'll translate your style to your children's illustrations!

Welcome @Alicja-W !! I'm sure you'll find a lot of helpful eyes here on these forums--they're blissfully free of most negativity and they're chock full of really supportive people.
Take some time to use the search feature to find posts you might be interested in, and explore all the functions and tags--there have been a couple new ones invented recently that are really useful for labeling your post so you get the right feedback you want. There's one tag for classes specific to SVSLearn, and then another for those looking for serious critique.
Have fun exploring!
