Hello from rural Nagano, Japan!
-
Hi all! I'm Lisa and I have been living in the Nagano countryside for the past 6 years. I have been listening to the 3 point perspective podcast for the last couple of months as I make the transition from English teaching to professional illustration. Working as a preschool teacher got me interested in the idea of illustrating and authoring children's books, and I've loved making art since I was a kid.
When I first listened to the episode about building a portfolio (Episode 29), I realized what a treasure trove it would be to join SVSlearn. I couldn't believe that the information was free to listen to! So I signed up last week and I'm looking forward to joining you all in building our skills in both art and business.

Hi there! Welcome to the forum!
This is the friendliest one I've ever been on so I am sure you're gonna love it here.I also wish you luck on the journey to becoming a children's book author I recall hearing from Will Terry that the ones that write and illustrate their own stuff are the ones the most valueable in the industry. Being an ex language teacher is a great background to start a career like that with
A little sidenote...I am soooo obsessed with Japanese culture and it makes me sooo hyped to hear that you're in Nagano Was the transition for japanese way of things as hard as they say it is?

Welcome! It is odd, I just discovered today the youtube channel of Mark Crilley who was an English teacher in Japan before building a carreer in illustration. I learnt a lot from his first children book project written and illustrated during his time in Japan : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWWZ_Ga7A6k
I hope you'll become as successful as him! Welcome and good luck to you!
