@Heather-Boyd, You can do whatever you like. It's more likely to be favored by the judge(s) if it follows the rules closely, but—you never know.

Plus, the ultimate goal is to practice art and create portfolio pieces, so [insert a "follow your heart" sort of thing here ]. Do what works for you. I'm sure it will be fun for everyone to see—whatever you choose to do.

So here is my submission. Sometimes we don't understand the love between a girl and her dog. Penny knew a thing or two about biochemistry and wasn't going to let little things like death or decay tear her apart from Fluffy.

Done with ballpoint ink and edited a little.

Here's my entry for the October prompt. I started off with dilute ink washes to create a shadowy scene but then I liked the idea of trying pure black and white so ended up having fun with pattern and texture.

Can I use black and white ink on toned paper? Purple paper, for instance?
