10 Mistakes Beginning Illustrators Make
-
Art by Lisa BurvantA lot of amateur illustrators make the same pattern of mistakes. How do you identify them, and more importantly, avoid them? Jake Parker, Lee White, and Will Terry draw on their experience as illustration professors and discuss the most common mistakes and pitfalls that beginning artists fall prey to, and give guidelines and strategies to overcome them and turn them into strengths.

Gonna give this a close listen. Wondering how many of the 10 I have in my repertoire.
-
Ohhh that sounds interesting! And I'm willing to bet I've made all 10 of these mistakes at least once haha

@burvantill Dang Lisa, that illustration is BOMB! You always do lovely work but this one seems like a level-up!
-
Can't wait to listen. @burvantill great job on the illustration! Such a cool idea and design on the sub.
-
@burvantill I really love the illustration. It made me laugh out loud.

I'd like to add (as a newbie) Under-estimating how much work a job will take. Say creating 200 images for a book within 30 days....
It was supposed to be simple black and white images..but there's scope creep with customizing each image even though I am working off of mock up images as a base... sigh

I listened to this yesterday...while redrawing an entire cover because I decided to add the spine and back!
Seriously, though, it was a great list, very helpful. Thanks!
