@NessIllustration thank you so much. Almost everything from my process, I got them from the svs community. It was good that I am able to give soemthing back to the community. ๐Ÿ™‚
@Jeremy-Ross @Mara-Price, thank you so much. It was really nice to talk about my process, it feels like a proper de-brief .

I just watched the video. Such a great package of information.
                  Thankyou @xin-li
I have a couple questions if you donโ€™t mind.
โ€ขWhen you were doing your initial back and forth emails to gather as much information as you could before starting, how long did that take, how long was the time gap from when you accepted the contract to when you actually started drawing anything.
โ€ขDid you get paid in installments, did they pay you anything, like a retainer, before you started the art?
โ€ขDid you receive any of the finished books for yourself, for self promotion or just to have?

Thankyou again. I wish I couldโ€™ve joined the meeting. This was great. ๐Ÿ™‚

@Braden-Hallett Thank you! I was going to attend last night but at the end I crashed. I will most certainly listen, though!

@burvantill The editor contacted me in mid Septbember to check my availability. Then it took sometime for them to get back to me with the ready manuscript (I think it is around mid October). We settled the contract around the same time as I recieved the manuscript, and I started working on the art around the last week of October. Once I recieved the manuscript, the communication went fairly quick.

I got a bit less than half paid in advance, and got the rest payment after I delivered the final art.

I got 15 illustrator copies of book.

I would guess the arrangement of advanced payment and illustrator copies are common, but maybe different countries/publishing hosues have different practice around these things.

@xin-li This was a great presentation. Everything was so clearly mapped out and organized. It was a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much for doing that for us!

I've only done a couple short commercial jobs that were local, and I felt really out of my depth the whole time. I'm worried if I ever to get a proper publishing contract that I won't know the right etiquette and way of dealing with things, and look unprofessional, so this is super helpful!
