I love the idea of this months prompt being like an assignment and though I’m not sure if I’ll get around to submitting something this idea that came to mind and I thought I would use it to help get out of an art funk (looks like I wasn’t alone) while trying to simplify my art.

For the day job, I've been tasked with making weekly coloring pages this summer. My art direction was, "Do whatevery you want!" So, I'm making fairy tale type illustrations, which I'll finish as watercolor paintings at some point to fill out my portfolio. Here are the two I've drawn so far.

Going back to my mice. I am thinking of a series of Inky goes to the beach sorta thing. I am kinda borrowing from Pascal Campions process of blocking in local color and then adding value and texture after. How do ya like this approach?

I think I'm going to explore these characters a little more from the last prompt. I had like 2-3 ideas initially and I think I'm going to do a little self challenge to try and round out this world a little bit (maybe 5 illustrations? I haven't quite decided). Here was one of the other ideas with that same frog visiting a friend.

Finished my pic.

Great idea @jdubz! Although I loved many pieces last month, yours was definitely my favorite!
-
I played around with my May Isolation piece by lightening up the sky based on the critique and added some text to try and balance the piece. It felt very left heavy before.

@Jeremy-Ross Thanks man I appreciate it!
-
Drew a little gator who's afraid of the high dive.
-
Drew me and my buddy on one of our 'beer walks' we've been having since some covid restrictions have been lowered. -
Took one of my gestures from gesture class to a wash of color today
-
Working on more beach pix.
-
Here is the final. I decided Inky needed a spot by himself.
Also the lighting inside a shell is durn hard to render.

Friday and today I worked on two small master studies. The originals probably were done digitally and may not have been pastel but I am just really loving pastel pencils and wanted to do these adorable foxes to practise applying technique and mixing colours. I am using a 12 pack of Faber-Castell pastel pencils which requires more colour mixing to try to get the right colour. I have also been feeling my work up until now has lacked the lustre of atmosphere so I found some watercolour work that had beautiful blends and wanted to try them out with pastel pencils; I did so (not shown here). Soft blends make me go all warm and gushy inside. Anyways, I am very happy with all of it!
*Edited note: my copies appear blurry I think because of my scanning -I'll work on that. Thanks

Played around with Lee's texture process today. This is very different from what I normally do, but it was a lot of fun!
