A made a kids picture book (for my kids)
-
Hi Guys,
I thought you might like to see the picture book I made for my 6 and 3 year olds.
I purchase a photobook voucher, create the artwork in Procreate and the rest is done in inDesign. (see attached PDF manuscript and photos of the finished book)
The guys on the podcast always talk about simply finishing your projects, and how sometimes it's good to just create art for yourself.
Is it perfect? No. Will it win any awards? No. Would it send shivers down the spine of most editors. Yes. But my kids love these little stories and it's a great outlet for me to create.
I hope it inspires some of you into making something
that you can hold in your hands. If there's any questions on the process just ask
Jason

Congratulations @mymightypencil! (Jason), well done I must say! I enjoyed reading it and the surprise ending is hilarious! I hope your kiddos love it.
Iām definitely interested in getting insight on the book voucher and putting a dummy together.
Great job!

@Jeremy-Ross thank you buddy. Glad you liked the ending. My wife did not
So the voucher was purchased from Groupon for around Ā£7, you then set up the book via the print shop associated with the voucher (it was colorland for me) once you setup your book and order, you pay delivery, which is another Ā£7 (there's a promo box at the end where you paste your Groupon code too).
The interface on colorland was super simple for setting up the book, if your pages are exported at the right size/ratio (A4 in my case) then you just upload and drop them straight in.
I hope that all made sense, I'm writing this as my kid is throwing a soccer ball at my face, whilst saying "watch this daddy".

It is brilliant, and fantastic, and the illustrations are perfect! Many rounds of applause and standing ovations to you, sir. Thank you very much for sharing!
If it were less well done then I wouldn't bother giving any criticism, but since there is literally only one thing lacking (in my opinion) I shall say this: the writing just needs a bit of editing. Even an adjustment in just one or two parts would bring the book to new levels of awesomeness. I know you said you haven't made it to win any awards, but I really do think it is deserving of official publishment (a new word I just made; good, isn't it?). I've seen much worse creations being self-published, and would love to see something as brilliant as this go out into the world.
(Let me know if you'd like my specific suggestions regarding literary edits, otherwise you can call it finished and carry on being rightly proud of a wonderful book.)
And I'm forward to seeing your next one! -
@Robyn-Hepburn thank you so much for your feedback, very kind of you. Publishment should be a word for sure
On my "back of mind" to-do list; I want to take another look at the book, I will polish the illustrations, and I know that sections will need re-writing
so if you have time to give some feedback, it would be greatly appreciated
thank you!

LMAO what a fun little story with an ending I thought was gonna come, then thought it wasn't then surprised again when it did. The illustrations are fun as well.
I like what you said about finishing something. I did that a few years ago with my own little book I've sold at Emerald City Comic Con the last few years. But it's time for me to do something else, and actually work towards finishing it.
Cheers man, great job!

Cheers @mymightypencil! Sounds like a fun project!

Super cute! You did a great job!
-
Super cute and a good little lesson as well.
-
It looks amazing! Well done! Congratulations!
-
You did such a great job with this! Love the illustrations.

@mymightypencil I have done it! I have procrastinated from what I was supposed to do, by scribbling all over your book. Now to figure out how to attach it...
Edits for Someone Ate Pete.pdf
I'm sure that if you went the traditional publishment route they would give you better suggestions, but at least this gives you some idea of a different perspective. My suggestions are definitely not definitive so take or leave 'em, I shall not be offended!
I really hope to be able to hold this book in my hands one day. -
Thats so sweet!
who cares about awards. If your kids like it it should be enough for now, and you finished a project!
i love it and i love your style! Keep going
P.s. i just took a look at the changes from @Robyn-Hepburn , kind of good suggestions.
