I am fascinated by the white pencil on black. I'm wondering, have you ever worked with scratchboard, or tried the scratchboard technique digitally? Instead of applying color, you reveal color by erasing the top layer using textural brushes... I wonder if that might be something you might have fun with...

@coreyartus I have never tried a scratchboard, Ill look into that. I have done a similar process like these drawings digitally... in fact its the only method that i like digitally. Working in 'reverse' makes way more sense to me. Dont have to worry about where castshadows go and whatnot. It feels more natural too as space is black untill light is added.

White colored pencil is a bit less forgiving... used chalk for these. Apart from the red grandpa. Still trying to grasp the method for layering colors with colored pencils

@coreyartus Looked at some scratchboard videos on Youtube... looks alright, I think ill prefer black paper and chalk though. You can use your finger to pick up some chalk and erase or create real subtle values that way. Dont think scratchboard allows for that. Bit more expensive too. I was thinking to buy a small blackboard to cut out the cost of black paper... i wont have a stack of studies i cant do anything with. Can always snap a picture with my phone for the drawings i really like.

Saw a video on youtube the other day... only video on this process i have found. It linked the process to caravagio (butchered his name no doubt) drawings under his paintings. Obviously way way waymore refined then my crummy drawings... but ive noticed a better understanding to light, even on regular white paper in a fairly short time.

Try it yourself, just some loose black sheets... sketchbook is more expensive and will smudge when used with chalk. Simple chalk pencil... and voila. Theres this thing called a boogieboard too, kinda hard to find where i live, same idea though. Have fun...
