BIG WIP

@rotub As long as it gets gotten gradually I'm gleeful
It's almost completely finished at this point. I just need to spend a few hours her and there kinda fiddling if you get what I mean.
-
WELP, I didn't like it, so I restarted.
Though my work's often 'okay' and the colours seem to work most of the time, it's always a struggle and it's never quite what I want.
So I tried changing my process. Much looser value study, and several colour comps which I then blew up and did linework over.
Usually I do a sort of value study with finished lineart and very polished values and it's too easy to get lost in the details.
I'll let it sit for a few days and choose which one to finish at that point

@braden-hallett
You crack me up! I just love you dedication to exploration and learning.
I did love your original, but seeing these new ones your foreground elements are so much stronger, especially the character of the dog and boy. Kudos!
It's amazing how never ending this whole process can be. -
@braden-hallett Wow, I was shocked when you said you restarted, but the new one reads much better! I also prefer the colours in the new one.
-
I like the changed in the clouds, definitely looks better I totally get the need to restart. I’ve had a tough time figuring out the right balance of linework and picking color with my style. Iz not easy lots of pieces and this struggle makes the art way better at the end. Dont forget to trust yourself

It's always fun when it turns out your 'final' piece is actually the rough draft
Kind of a lot like writing, actually...

Literally my struggle
It's getting close to kind of working, I think.
-
Yeah you got it happening mostly already actually. Keeping it simple and minimizing the use of soft edges worked best for me. I ended up using flatter colors and this let my lines do most of the work. Kinda like comic books do.
-
Great Work! I was gonna suggest moving the lone deer and tree, plus softening the clouds. It's like I didn't even have to suggest it because you had already done it with the new piece.
The new one has a great focal point. My eye is immediately drawn to the shadow of the bird with your use of values. And the rest of the detail supports how massive this creature really is. Like I said great work.

Little changes here and there
-
@braden-hallett noice
-
So many little painting touch-ups. Calling it done, though
-
@Braden-Hallett I love it! You really captured the idea and feeling of "Big"
-
@inkandspatter Thanks :smiling_face_with_open_mouth: I like how it turned out, too
-
Love the kid looking up! Good job.
-
@theprairiefox Thanks
-
@Braden-Hallett I'm amazed by the progress from your thumbnail to this stage. I also saw the final image and really loved the final product!
-
@Braden-Hallett the new version really added some nice dynamic between the foreground/background. Again, nicely done!

@djly thank you
