APRIL CONTEST VIDEO CRITIQUES!
-
@Lee-White said there was no winner this month but I think we ALL won!
-
@StudioLooong I agree 100%.
-
@Lee-White thank you so much for the critique. I had considered the rearranging of the characters as you suggested. To explain though, the idea was originally for the mouse to be riding the owl, but then switched it to show the mouse waiting for his ride, thus the sedentary position of that character. I do find it fun to play around with the natural rolls of characters, placing them in less common situations. Thank you again very much and very appreciated.
-
@StudioLooong Absolutely! I learn so much from hearing everyoneโs critiques and appreciate honest,professional eyes on my work too. We all won!
-
@Lee-White thank you so much for the crits. Love love love it. I can not believe that you did this - all 58 entries.
-
Thanks for the crit @Lee-White gave me some good ideas. I like your intro too gives you a simple (seemingly haha) approach to creating a better image. Awesome
-
@Lee-White I thought of a way to improve my character lol
-
@Lee-White Thank you so much for doing this. I have to be honest that I was very nervous when I heard you were critiquing them all because I've always felt I am stronger in story telling than illustration and I threw my picture into the mix just for the fun of it. Your critique, however, confirmed so much of what I have been moving toward style-wise that it just made my day and felt incredibly encouraging. Thank you for all of the time you put into this. Listening to critiques both of one's own work and others is such a great way of learning.
-
@Lee-White Thank you so much for the critique. I was crazy nervous. You are spot on and pointed out everything that i couldn't figure out but felt. Awesome. Thank you so much for your time. Not just with mine but with all of them. This was definitely a gift.
To answer your story question:
I was going for an old man waiting to meet up with his son and grand daughter in a public area. Proportions is my next study. and i should have moved them over to the right and hit the graffiti in the left column. though he would not be looking at it. it would direct the eyes that way. I guess.Sorry about no name. I got to learn. Do you think just pencil work is good enough? Feel like i lose that pencil magic and substitute it with that color magic.
Here is my finished before this critique.

@Lee-White thank you, lee

Wow thank you @Lee-White for your critiques and your time!! Iโve just finished watching the whole video and I took so many notes from lots of entries.

I also want to thank fellow students who took time to give me feedback during the process of doing this illustration in the forum, it helped me so much, thanks again! -

@Lee-White Get yourself some coffee! (or maybe lemon tea with honey for the throat!) Thank you for all this work reviewing everyone's submission. Very helpful to hear over and over again what is needing to tell a story. Thanks so much for the time you spent.
-
@Lee-White holy bajeezus I am not only blown away by the thoroughness and depth of your critique but also by the breadth of your critique to all of us!!!!! The value you guys add to SVS continues to increase. This is one of my favorite communities Iโve ever been a part of.
And on the storytelling aspect of your critique, my friends just told me similar feedback and theyโre not even in the industry! Things lined up pretty well in this and I am seeking to understand the story behind my art. Cheers and thank you
-
@Lee-White thanks so much for doing this marathon crit! Even though I am too chicken to participate myself

@Lee-White Wow, this is an unexpected and awesome gift! Thank you for taking the time for this. I was struggling with making my crazy-contraption image more readable, and your suggestions are very helpful. I find your commitment to assisting other artists inspiring and beautiful!

Thank you, @Lee-White I really appreciate all of these helpful video critiques and, of course, especially mine. So many good things to think about when watching them all. You are so NICE for doing this. I plan to start work on redrawing my dinosaurs to get that 3/4 view. @Maureen-BF

Added in @Lee-White's suggestions along with a few other changes I though would help tell the story a bit better. Thanks again for doing this for everyone Lee!
