Making Narrative pieces- Tortoise and the Hare project
-
@nyrrylcadiz Looks great so far! However, I can see why you're worried and where you're coming from.
My instant read on the image was that the cheerleader bunny with the pom-poms was super tiny and dancing on the rabbit's engine.
Maybe (maybe?) if you bump up the contrast on the rabbit's spaceship it may help to solve the problem. Maybe. I could well be wrong.
-
@Braden-Hallett thanks! I really didn’t notice that bunny making a tangent with the ship. Huge thanks for that. I’ll try bumping up the contrast too
-
Here’s another Update. Any feedback is highly appreciated.

Oh my goodness! I just noticed that the hare has a carrot-mobile! So good!
To address your question, I think the open space as you have it now gives good breathing room, and it already seems like you have a large enough crowd. That's my impression, anyway.
Such a cool piece. It's out of this world!
-
@KathrynAdebayo thanks! Yes it is a carrot mobile
-
@Nyrryl-Cadiz I love your progress on this piece! The characters and ships are so much fun and I think the crowd adds some fun story elements that help keep you in the picture longer. I love the little she-tortoise's expression and the mouse on the balloon way in the back. The crowd between the two ships does start to compete with them a bit maybe you could make them just a tiny bit darker? Also, I noticed that there's a purple line going through the tortoise's neck that looks like it shouldn't be there.
-
@StudioLooong thanks! I’ll work on that
-
@Nyrryl-Cadiz Wow, your colours are incredible. This piece has such a nice feel.
-
@Erin-Cortese Thanks!
-
Here’s a new update! I’m still going to add more characters on the left side. I feel like it’s really coming together. I’m starting to feel good about it. Any comments? They’re highly appreciated. Thanks!
-
@Nyrryl-Cadiz I think this looks really good. The only thing I can think of is whether you were intending for the glass covers on the spaceships to have slightly soft edges? The feet of the spacecraft have hard edges, and I am wondering if the glass bits should as well. Lovely piece with lots of movement!
-
@animatosoor huh, I’ve never really thought about that. The glass and the feet are of different materials tho so I don’t think that they need to act the same. Also glass is more reflective thus creating that hazy/blurry look I guess. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll try it out.
-
Here’s what I’ve got so far. I don’t like it. I need your help guys.
-
@Nyrryl-Cadiz I think you need to reduce the intensity of the shadows of the vehicles & flatten the detailing of the crowd in the background..its getting a lot of attention. I'd also reduce the opacity of the glass of the vehicles & make them more transparent, the transparency of the glass would differ between the two vehicles because of the space between them & would add depth to the scene. Looking good otherwise.
What do you not like about it ?

some references for glass:

Hi, everyone. Sorry I’ve been away for a while. I’ve busy lately. Anyway, i’ve been working on my Tortoise and Hare illustration and this is what I’ve done.
I finally know why I don’t like the second illustration. It was because of the crowd.I’m just not good with crowds. I wish I could just remove them and put some cool space background but I’ve already established my story. I guess you just can’t win them all, can you? Finish not perfect, right?
Anyway, the fourth piece is in the works. I’ll update you guys soon.
-
Ha ha this is funny, hare is chilling...love the floating minibar.
-
Hi, everyone! I’m finally calling this piece finished. I’m so happy I can take this off my mind. I think I’ll stop here. I don’t think I can finish the 4th illustration. That’s alright though. 3 out of 4 is not bad. I hope you like this one. Thanks!
-
@Nyrryl-Cadiz I've only been here a week, so I'm seeing all these for the first time. I just wanted to say that I really like these pieces.
-
@Zachary-Drenski hi! Thanks!
