So i might not do the contest this month. It depends on how much free time i have. Ive been wanting to do this exercise/challenge. I wanted to use this tutorial in the “how to think when you draw” books that i just got in the mail:
      http://theetheringtonbrothers.blogspot.com/2018/01/how-to-think-when-you-draw-3-shape.html?m=1

Combined with the draw 100 things challenge. To draw little demons of various shapes and sizes.

What i did was made a bunch of these (72 to be exact) with varying widths and divisions. Making sure none are repeated. Im going to go through all of them and draw a demon character for each body type. Then ink it. After the 72, the remaining 28 will just be random just to get to 100.

So far i got this guy:

Just thought I’d share my process. You’re welcome to critique it or try it yourself!

I think you're going to have a LOT of fun with that idea!! Such a great opportunity to such variety and yet have them all linked together.

            @Aleksey

In have seen and tried these however my character creations are a struggle and so not in 3d like yours. I also kept them all as star fleet officers since I was watching while I drew them. I will see if I can find them and post them here later.

*Also do you know anyone who teaches drawing characters in perspective as in not head on, rotated like you have here?

@Heather-Boyd that's tough, i learned from reading anatomy books and drawing from anatomy books.
              The book i used was:
              https://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/drawing-the-head-and-figure-jack-hamm/1102478263/2661299829017?st=PLA&sid=BNB_ADL+Marketplace+Good+Used+Textbooks+-+Desktop+Low&sourceId=PLAGoNA&dpid=tdtve346c&2sid=Google_c&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7tK65b_44wIVF4TICh3W5wWeEAQYAiABEgIVQvD_BwE

And Also the "How to Draw Everything" class helped be on svs because @Jake-Parker explains how to think about things in shapes. You end up having to stop and think about what something would look like if you turn it.

Those are so cool! I love the inked ones. The way you describe volumes with lines is pretty dang cool, especially on that kangaroo looking guy.

Just a quick idea here...have you considered using different shapes than rectangles and squares? I know that those shapes are just illustrative and the final ones are very different, but I think that using other shapes, like triangles for example, could help you expand your horizons a bit. Give it a thought 😄

                  Spreading art and positive vibes!

@IgorWoznicki i have thought about it. Good points. I wanna see if I could do it by skipping that step. It’s very hard

@Aleksey Looks like a great exercise. Along with the “Draw 100 Things”, to really push past an initial batch of ideas and explore all possibilities. I have a habit of settling on ideas earlier, when I could probably do more exploration.

@drawnbyshawn i have the same issue! Which is something i need to address. I skip thumbnails usually and that’s not a good habit to have.

@Heather-Boyd the posing characters class by Will and Jake I found really helpful for exactly that. I did it months ago but just this week am re-doing the exercises and suddenly it's really making sense and I made a big step forward from where I was with the 3d understanding and drawing it.

@Coley thanks! I also did the posing characters class! It was fun but i think i was stuck up in my approach and found something that encouraged my laziness 😛
