Kind of meditative when doing this on paper. I have seen the inking videos before, but when re-watching it, I realized a lot of excises can be used to practice with other art supplies, like pencil for example. It is about getting better with drawing in general :-). I think 6B pencil in procreate is very suitable for most of the excises.

Cool! I'm in! I'll start watching the first homework-video's tonight. I'll see if I want to work traditional or digital... maybe both :-).
Good idea to do linework everyday, I'll start that as well.

@Braden-Hallett at first I thought this would be a good opportunity to get beyond the sketch pencil on my ipad/Procreate and try digital inking, but now I see it as the perfect vehicle to work on fine motor control on paper. That became an issue for me 4 years ago, so I broke down and bought an iPad Pro. The undo/redo in Procreate made drawing a lot easier, but I have not moved forward much in regaining fine motor skill. The initial exercises don’t have the pressure of a product, but really help identify which movements and goals need most practice. I also need to learn to post struggles and be publicly accountable, so I am very happy you initiated this Braden! My daily practice will include exercises that require long lines, pressure and consistency using a technical or ball point pen for most.

Wow, I am really shaky with a digital brush pen

I feel your pain 🙂 I find it a LOT easier to get a smooth line with traditional materials vs digital.

It's a great start, though! Those lines'll smooth out sooner than you think if you do them every day

When I do practice linework in the morning I call it 'self calibration' It is very meditative 🙂

I really like the fading line hatching in the bottomr right. Looks really neat!

Awesome! Certainly a great start 😃 . I think your hatching's bang-on. It's crazy how much of a difference a push vs a pull makes with those long lines, isn't it?

Here are some more lines and practice. I have always wanted to be able to use a brush pen to do the modern calligraphy but so far it eludes my skill. This line practice helps.

Are we posting our daily practice here? Or just once a week?

Ink warmups for today. Used the brush pen this time around. I must say, I’m quite pleased to see the improvement from the last time I used this sucker. I’m excited to see what kind of progress will come from daily work between now and the end of October.

@Kuarahy Sequential Art Workshop. A nice counterpoint to the classes and forums here. Much smaller community; they use a platform (Mighty Network) I'm not so fond of; and their discussion and classes focus on sequential art (comics and graphic novels, mostly). PM me if you'd like more info.

@chrisaakins It's amazing how fast line practice helps 🙂

You can post as often as you want, I think. This week is more 'practice them lines, dernit!' than anything else, so if posting keeps you practicing, then do it! In the later weeks we'll have more concrete 'assignments'.

Not an issue at all 😉 Post however often you need to keep you practicing the linework.
