@chrisaakins I really like Brush Pen #2 and Ball point #2. You have great control with the brush pen!

@xin-li These look great - really smooth transitions! I worked with ink washes for the first time last October and it felt a bit disastrous. I think I was expecting it to move and spread easier. This is a good reminder to practice washes! I love the depth that you got with the houses!

I liked the tubes so I copied. Surprisingly I like the mouse paw with brush pen best.

I did a value scale and then tried doing a cat. It would have been better if I used reference since Iโ€™m a dog person, not a cat person ๐Ÿ™‚

Found this book at the library last night. It is a little beat up, but has some great supplemental information and exercises! I'm definitely a book person, and I have realized that in order to learn effectively I am going to need supplemental material to read on a regular basis.

@Erin-Cortese I have this book - I got it during last Inktober - and itโ€™s great. There is also a workbook that goes with it although the book really covers everything the workbook does.

Quick question: I tried inking over some colored pencil sketches with a Pentel brush pen, and it seemed like the pencil kept the ink from soaking in. Has anybody noticed the same thing? I'm planning on sketching out my drawings for Inktober before hand, but maybe I need to use something other than my usual colored pencils. . . Maybe I happen to have especially waxy colored pencils. . . I'm going to try a few different things and see if anything works better, but if someone's already familiar with this I'd love to hear about it!

@Kuarahy I believe @Jake-Parker said that he uses the Colorerase pencils because that doesnโ€™t happen. It was in ... I canโ€™t remember correctly. I think the how to draw everything class, but Iโ€™m not sure. Iโ€™ve watched so many ๐Ÿคช. Iโ€™ll try and find it.
Anyway, I have the same problem, I use cheepo crayola pencils and they resist water too. I havenโ€™t bought the colorerase pencils yet because I havenโ€™t used up my crayolas and Iโ€™m frugal. Lol.

@Kuarahy I have tried colorerase pencils before. They are very different from the normal waxy pencil. If you are planning to sketch for inking, colorerase penicls are great. Blue lead pencil also works(now you can get other colors than blue as well).

Revisiting cheap drawing paper for ink wash practice yesterday. For these small sized paintings, cheap papers actually do pretty ok job.
