Hey all! I could use some eyes on this project/new style I'm trying to work in. Obviously it's super simple (most inspired by a Lucy Cousins' type of illustration). Are they reading well (do the emotions come across visually)? Is it way too basic to be interesting? I don't feel finished with the design of the pages, it's really just a rough start, but I'm hoping for a little feedback before I get too far into it (it's hopefully going to be a completed book dummy for my portfolio). Thanks!

@CaroStoltz These look fun. I could imagine them as board books for my granddaughter.

I like it. Great style. You might want to check out "Bruno, The Standing Cat.".

I like the style! I don’t think it’s too simple, I like your color choices and I think the expressions communicate. One thing I wanted to point out is to pay attention to the gutter and where that will cut your illos. The trout’s head looks like it’s going to be right in the middle if that is a double page spread.

@CLCanadyArts Thanks! That's a flattering comparison- I didn't know the book, but am familiar with the artist (he's definitely also an influence without me realizing it, I think!)

@NatLundeen Thanks! And yeah, that's a good call! I don't do a lot of full page spreads, but I need to start thinking about placement/composition more.
