April WIP brings May.... Robots?

Are you opposed to using photo editing to tweak things like eyes? Did you crop D at all or do you still have some edges to work with in the unedited version of D?
I'm wondering what D would look like if you painted in the robot's eyes to look at us and possible tilt the whole thing counter clockwise?
Anyways, I know this part is agonizing because it's all about subtleties, but I really think any way you go at this point you are pretty much set. Any perfecting tweaks will just be the cherry on top.
-
@TessaW actually those eyes are digitally edited to look at the girl so it would just be removing that paint overlay and then the robot would be looking directly at the camera! Iโll give it a shot. Iโm also currently re-shooting because my dad pointed out some tangents in the composition
So I am trying to combine the look of C and A right now!

This is so totally mind glowingly awesome, (that was autocorrect from mind blowingly awesome but glowingly works too lol) ......wayyyy better than I was expecting and I was already expecting great stuff!
I canโt pick between them, theyโre all so wonderful. Lisa is just awesome. I love her so much! You totally have to keep this up in the future! -
@EliaMurrayArt these are fantastic where did you learn how to do all this
-
Thank you @Coley !!! I really hope to do more!
@ArtofAleksey a lot of it is just me figuring things out. I've always loved sculpture, and sewing, and stop motion. I sort of just love learning how to do everything and anything. So this is my way of combining all the things I enjoy doing - sewing, needle felting, sculpting, illustration, stop motion (though I have not figured out how to actually make an animation yet.. that is SUPER hard for me.. but someday!)

Final Shot
Ok, so after much hemming and hawing... and my dad telling me to re-do it... I did another round of roughly 30 photos and this one caught my eye and stuck. Which is a GREAT sign. It also happens to be the VERY LAST PHOTO I took.
This is the photo edited (though I think I will keep tweaking it here and there - so not 100% finished, if you have anything to suggest, but no more photos, please, my poor back haha)
And here it is unedited. Just so you can see some of the digital work I have done since it's hard to tell. First I cropped it down. I have adjusted Lisa's eyes and mouth. I've panted over the robots eyes, added sparks, and added a little glow in his light bulb. I have adjusted the levels, and saturation.

This is the very best thing evah! This photo is perfect. The editing, the pose, the broken robot and sparks!
congratulations because this is absolutely incredible! Well done to your dad lol! I donโt think Iโve ever commented on a post so much haha, I hope I didnโt drive you crazy, my enthusiasm is totally authentic and my jealousy is too
maybe someday Iโll do something this cool
-
@Coley I REALLY hope you do! And then I will comment incessantly. Thank you so so so much for your enthusiasm. This has been the hardest illustration I have ever done and your cheering has been such a light in my dark tunnel hahaha I'm going to go lay down and rest. I feel like I've run a marathon.
-
I think the re-shoot was well worth it! Looks great to me! The comp, clarity, colors, and added details are all well done. Maybe some very slight vignetting like you had in some of the other samples might be in order, but it definitely looks fantastic as-is!

Sooooooo incredible!!

Blooper Reel
Lisa took some time to "find her groove"
here are some outtakes.
It was fun finding her range. Even though her face can't move I feel like she was able to create quite a few looks. The robot also changed quite a lot.

This is just the most fascinating thread to follow, and you've done a WONDERFUL job on this! I'm stunned, especially since you said you've never done this before
If I tried something like this, well...it would be a hot mess in about a minute, for sure. Absolutely love this project!
[insert standing ovation here]

This turned out FANTASTIC!!
-
@EliaMurrayArt It's wonderful
and all I can say is many many thanks for sharing all of this. It's so inspiring to see you go for it when lately I've been searching for motivation. what a way to win a contest without any judging necessary
-
@carolinebautista omgosh haha thank you so much
all I can say is go forth and make more art no matter how daunting it may feel.
-
@EliaMurrayArt I will keep going!!! But I have to say that at this point, despite the chaos you so clearly show, blowing up my robot entry seems like my best option
-
This is great. My one bit of feedback is the values of the piece. Since you are using models and a physical set, my suggestion is either editing in photoshop afterwards or using lights to make the character in the foreground pop more. I posted a photo with the gray values to show what i mean.
The floor is a light lass and the walls are a slightly darker mass. So they keep pulling a lot of attention away. On a film set (i only know this because my partner works in film) they would break it up with textures or more objects, and with lights. The objects on the floor are similar in value to the floor and the clothes and hair of the character are similar in value to the wall. -
@ArtofAleksey thank you so much for pointing this out to me!! I am going to see if I can digitally adjust the background/foreground accordingly and potentially repost!
-
@ArtofAleksey and any one else... Thoughts?
While I still have time to change hahaWhat do you all think - light or dark? Crazy how great digital editing is haha
-
Surprise third option!!
