Building some props today! Here's the start to little Lisa's work bench. It is made of some square dowels and some chopped up popsicle sticks. It will get a paint job and be beat up and scribbled on, like any good kiddo would do to their work bench.

Lisa is a little annoyed because I prioritized this over her head... but I promised her that I'd work on that next.

Ok ok - one more thing before Lisa gets a head. But I just couldn't resist making her apron 😍

This corduroy was an old dress that I decided to slice up tonight. It's just what I wanted.

Eeek! love! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ I know I comment every time you post something LoL, but I am just enjoying this so much. You're inspiring me to try my idea in paper mache or something but I can't even figure it out on paper yet LoL. This is the best thread going on the forum now IMHO😁

@Coley omg 🙈🙈🙈 your comments are honestly the best thing to keep me going right now. I appreciate them so much. They are such a boost to remind me to keep having fun and not get frustrated or worried about finishing it.

@Coley also you should 100% try paper mache. Theres an artist you should check out who works primarily in it... Tasha Vasilek. She makes really strange and beautiful work with paper clay and paper mache. I highly recommend checking her and then just go make some art!!

                          Finally!! Lisa has a skull!

Might seem a little creepy but she'll get skin, eyes, a personality, all quite soon.

I'm using la Premiere air dry clay for the first time. I usually use Super Sculpey Firm but I wanted to experiment with this air dry clay because I don't want to have to use my oven.

So far it seems like this clay will take a whole lot of patience and reworking. Fortunately it is easy to carve, sand, and layer over and over.

@EliaMurrayArt do you follow Chris Sickles (Red Nose Studio)? I think you'd REALLY like his stuff. He has illustrated a few children's books in this manner.

@StudioLooong Yes! I ADORE his work. He's a huge idol of mine. His work is essentially what I think of when I dream of being able to do what ever I want. Gather all the random things in this world and turn them into amazing stories that you can reach out and feel.

He was just interviewed on the Terry Border podcast and I related so much to his illustration journey, starting off as a 2D painter, but always wanting to do more than just fill in lines.

@EliaMurrayArt ahh great, he's one of my favorite illustrators too. I actually discovered him when I was in high school because he would regularly show his work in the galleries in CIncinnati, OH where i grew up (He's from Indiana so the journey wasn't too far). There was one exhibit where he had all his sketchbooks out on display, it was SO cool to see his sketches and plans, notes for materials and such displayed along with the finished work. In his most recent book his endpapers are pics of all his props and what he made them out of and its mesmerizing. He puts his puppets up for sale all the time and I so badly want to buy one.

I'll have to pick up his recent book! I have not seen it. 😃

A little progress on Lisa. Just getting the major shapes in.
Sanding, carving, and shaping to continue until I'm happy with how she looks. And then she will get painted. Trying to decide if I want to carve her mouth in, or paint it on... I'm thinking carve.

This is such a fun process to follow. Did you use a different kind of clay for her eyes?

I'm looking forward to more! 🍿
