@Miriam I use them on Windows, but the do have Mac support.

I don't own Designer, but have used it. It's wonderful, I cannot use Inkscape for the life of me. Their video tuts are extremely helpful, easy to understand, and free. I didn't buy it because I don't need vector right now, and want to focus on other things.

I just bought the Affinity Publisher, it supports indesign files which is a big plus. I've yet to do too much with it, but it's a dream. Will make publishing a breeze.

I haven't used Affinity photo.

Doesn't look like Publisher is available for the Ipad, but the other two are and on sale for $10. $25 for mac or windows right now.

Edit: To me Affinity design is better than Illustrator, but that could be a personal preference. And I've never really used Adobe InDesign, so I can't compare.

@Chip-Valecek Ha, ha! Yes, I was thinking I could get lost in these beautiful images, too! I agree about color scheme inspiration, especially since I'm amazed when illustrations look like they are actually glowing. (I hope I can learn to get a glowing effect someday!)

@davidhohn I’m doing it again at 2:00 tomorrow. I did it everyday this week. It’s been a blast. My business page is “Whitney’s Art Spot.” Didn’t get a chance to fix all my Facebook stuff this week. I haven’t used that part of Facebook in forever! It seemed like the simplest way for people to find me. At least my community people. I have gotten a lot more traffic. People in my community were excited about it that I hadn’t even heard of. And we are a small group!

I haven’t painted with all my kids before. Here and there I paint with them, but all together at the table is new for us. Even if that’s all that comes of it, then it has been a win! My friends send me pictures of their kids’ paintings. It’s awesome!

Hi @rachelpenman This is a fun idea! I get by context that this is a snow scene but the way it's rendered and shaped it looks more like an ocean wave. Did you use any photo references? Maybe if you put a little more contrast between the hill and the background. Also, I would deepen the saturation on the foreground figures to get better aerial perspective, especially the bird and the parts flying toward the viewer. Everything seems even in value and contrast and that is confusing the sense of space and flattening it out. For example, the trees are just as bold as the person in the foreground and they would be greyer and bluer.

Thanks. I was thinking iPad and using my mouse with my Mac mini and Photoshop. If most of the drawing can be done on iPad and only formatting done with the mouse, that should work to bridge the start-up cost gap.

@Nathalie-Kranich I don't think it could hurt to include that you have a degree in digital arts, but to be honest I don't think it's necessary to include if you have a degree when querying agents as your portfolio will speak for itself. I do include that I have a degree in the about section of my website though.
I research what each agent wants, as some state '10 JPEGS' and some might state less than that. If they don't state what they want on their submissions page, I pick a few of my best pieces to send as JPEGs and then include my website in the email body, and say that I also have PDFs of my dummy books available.
I don't think it's necessary to hype up the agency loads in your email, I always find this comes across a bit cheesy! If you have a genuine reason why you like that agency then you can say, but as long as it doesn't look like you've copy pasted the same generic email to 50 other agencies then I think you're good. Your current formula looks good to me. At the end of the day it really just comes down to the portfolio!

Unfortunately I'm a horder and I don't like to part with my memories. I have a craft room at home but it's not big enough for all my stuff. I still have most of my college work in portfolios from 30 years ago - aaaaaaargh!!!
