It’s kind of like grief. It doesn’t go away. But from some perspectives, the rest of your life grows around it and it becomes part of you but not the overwhelming presence it once was because other aspects of your life have shifted/grown/developed. Proportions of the need for validation change, but that need will never go away. I think there’s a lot we can do as illustrators that can help shift/grow/develop the proportions of our desire for validation in respect to the other aspects of being an illustrator.

Oh yah, I know the feeling of being stuck sometimes and not feeling like making art because I'm not at the level I want to be at yet. 🙂 I suppose it's every artist's internal battle at some point.

I'm glad you could utilize some of that. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your work. It would be cool to see your progress with this piece if you feel like sharing.

I forgot to mention that some of my early inner angst about finding a style was quieted by this forum. I've put up bunches of illustrations on here and asked for feedback like you're doing. It helped me develop a lot faster in the beginning (and continues to help me). I love that we can find honest feedback here and that people are willing to lend an eye to our art. Spending time offering feedback to others also helps.

I second the sentiment @tom-barrett stated.

Usually for art pieces like this, the brush used is a spray paint effect, or a spackeling brush. You could search, texture brushes for procreate and see what the examples display?

I don't have any experience with them, but looking thru the represented illustrators, I see Anthony Wheeler and David Hohn. They did an interview on the podcast with Anthony in Nov '22. They both have filled in on the podcast a few times, and I believe David has a couple classes on SVS as well.

@Heather-Foxwood It sounds like complicated one for my experience. But I assume that they would like to use the art for promotion materials, merch and so on in the future without paying you a procentage. Probably you may ask them to find a solution so both sides to be satisfied. If you don't care about these profits, maybe they should be specified and mentioned in the contract and give the rights to use them and also mention that you will still having the rights to use the art but with no comersial purpose/ financial profit. I know is the same like giving the rights, but ot will feel better and will secure you if in the future they want to use them for something not included in the contract. ( like a movie or something). These are just thoughts, I am not a specialist. 😉 And good luck!
