Fairy tale traveler wip

She is from a treetop dwelling village so I’m still trying to figure out how to incorporate more of that into her design. I feel like the leaves and twigs in her hair is a good start but you’d still never know just based on that that she lives in the trees. Maybe I’ll change her pendant to an acorn...?

She's really great! I love the chipmunk. I'd love to see more gear. We had this elfin nymph-like photographer at our wedding. She was very slight of frame but had this oversized photography gear bag slung across her chest and hanging from her waist. She looked incredibly cool. I think that's the direction I'd take it.

@Katherine that sounds super cute I can picture it my mind but I think my gal likes to travel light maybe I can think of a few more trinkets to hang on her though like a canteen or pot. Give pip a little knapsack lol

She's really cute! I think the idea of naive but stouthearted really comes across. I was thinking about her being a tree-dweller and maybe her hair could have actually have leaves growing out of it? Although I guess once you get to the colours and patterns that will echo her native environment anyway. And I love Pip! I've been giggling over his little toot as he sits on her shoulder. Maybe she should be holding her nose?

@ruth thank you so much! Yes hopefully she’ll come together more as I move forward. I’ve been playing around with her expression to match his action a little more
the little stinker

@Asyas_illos Pip so so cute!

@miranda-hoover thanks!

Ok I made a few small adjustments but I think this is it. I’m going to start on some color schemes and I’ll be back for opinions!

@Asyas_illos This is great! It's been awesome to see artists in this forum grow in their skill as time progresses and your skills have grown a lot in the last several months! Your hard work is definitely showing! Keep up the good work!

been working on some more sketches of juniper and pip trying out different poses and expressions .
-
haha love her facial expression on the right. She's definitely got personality.
-
@K-Flagg I just love her at this point! Maybe form a story around her...?
-
After today’s critique arena I finished up some more sketches I had been doing of juniper and pip. I am beginning to think that my first spread isn’t showing enough “character” they said gesture is so important and since there’s not much gesture you can do with a “neutral” pose I thought maybe I needed more expression. Any thoughts? Which do you like better? A combination of both?
-
The first page of characters has a great variety of facial expressions. It's looking really cute! Maybe there could be one where she's looking directly at us? One thing I notice about all of these poses is that the torso is pretty much a straight line from hips to shoulders. If that's a style choice, then nevermind, but one of the classes (I forget which one) talked about making bean-shaped torsos, with a curved line of the spine. I feel like you could add a whole other layer of expression, mood, & intention by doing some quickie gesture drawings that play with that.

@Valerie-Light thank you for the feedback. I know!
I want to play around with gesture a lot more I just don’t want to stray too far from the whole”neutral” thing maybe I can do a sheet that’s completely detached from the contest and just have fun with her because that’s what I really want to do!
