Hi Everyone! Happy August!!!! I've been working on some Imaginary Circus themed characters this month, here are a few of my favorites. All are watercolor on paper.

@Tiffany-Thomas Wow, your watercolors are so rich and gorgeous. Do you do an underpainting or maybe many layers? These are so fun.

@Katie-Carling Thank you! I do an underpainting first, usually with Burnt Sienna. Then I build layers of color on top and use White Gouache for the highlights. Here's a snapshot of the underpainting for one of the images.

So much color yet it works so well! I love how her colors lead the viewer's eyes to to her face where we find a ridiculous amount of character and story! Wonderful work, I'm amazed as usual!

@Jeremiahbrown Haha, thanks so much! Your comments always make me feel so encouraged. I'm glad she works, even with all the busy color...she is a rainbow mermaid so I had to make her crazy bright ;).

@Judy-Elizabeth-Wilson I love this so much!!! This would be amazing wallpaper, it's really cool how all the different little dogs fit together and I love all their unique expressions, so fun!

@burvantill Haha, these are all so great! What a wonderful challenge, and you are exceptionally good at capturing different emotions through their expressions & gestures. I love Day 11, it made me giggle. Sooooo fun!

@Kim-Rosenlof Thanks Kim. I am enjoying spending two or three hours just doodling, in the future the sketches will mean so much more as they are of my little dogs.

@Tiffany-Thomas Thanks Tiffany, My dogs are always on the move and I had to use some imagination on some of them. They do have their funny expressions, when they want something a lot they show their teeth, their doggy smile!

@Katie-Carling Haha, thanks. Not sure if that's how you're 'supposed' to do watercolor, but I was an oil painter first so it's a habit I carried over. It really helps me to figure out the value of things before I work on the color and I love the way the sienna mixes in and influences the other colors.
