Here’s without the lines
I submitted this one didn’t want the guys getting hung up on those lines lol

@Chantal-Goetheer thanks for the feedback! The cauldron is a nice suggestion but I’m not sure I can fit in without muddying up the silhouettes.

I’ve been working on another glow illustration for awhile now and I’m looking for some feedback on composition and concept. It may hard to tell at this stage but basically these kids heard something at night and are checking it out when their candle goes out and the figure in the back will be a glowing ghostly apparition. Is it ok that I’ve cropped out their feet?
-
@Asyas_illos I love this, Asya, so moody and scary. I think your composition is really nice, and it utilises the space in a good way... I don't think cropping out feet is a bad thing for this, it would be dark anyway and the feet wouldn't be very visible regardless...
If you want to change it up, I was thinking that maybe moving the camera to be in front of them and bunching the kids closer to each other and to us, might make the mood even creepier... This would also place the threat in a looming position, which might make it feel more menacing... I did a quick reshuffle to show what I mean... I don't think that this composition is better, it's just different. I think the illo would turn out lovely either way, and I look forward to seeing it finished!

@Mia-Clarke thank you for the comp idea, and the feedback, I’ll keep that in mind

Forward progress

I think I’m done with the kids now on to the ghost! I’m still open to feedback, but I don’t think I’ll be making any big changes at this point
-
A little bit more to go…
-
@Asyas_illos Ooo...I like how it turned out! Nice glow effect.
-
@Kim-Rosenlof thanks! I really am enjoying this one!
-
Does his expression look like he doesn’t know he’s the scary thing and is looking behind him like there’s something else to be scared of? Lol that was exhausting just writing it
-
Still not sure if the story is coming through… also do you think the background props are too distracting?
-
@Asyas_illos I think the props help anchor the scene, which helps show he's a ghost and it makes sense... maybe you could have the ghost crouched, like he could be holding the shoulders of the last person in the line, as he's looking behind him to add to the idea he has no idea he's the scary thing in the room. Ha ha ha I love this idea! Sorta reminds me of the movie The Others.
-
@Asyas_illos the props help me too see him as a ghost. At first without the props I though it looks like dad that is somehow lit differently, even though I know it should be a ghost. i love how he also seems to be peaking around for scary stuff. Somehow his face makes me think of him more of being their dad instead of a ghost. But now im also wondering how a ghost would look like
-
@Asyas_illos I'm sure you're going to have great chances again at winning! It does look great.
-
@Asyas_illos this one is my favourite so far! Great job
