        Hi again,

My first character sheet! I took @NessIllustration Picture Book Portfolio Prompt classes and this was a choice from one of the assignments. I learned a lot about what I could achieve, after getting over myself quite a bit. And learned I still have much to learn. 🙂

        Illustration -Yasmina 72Res.jpg

Question though; I did this mainly traditionally but edited it on Clip Studio (placement/arrangement). Do I now need to call myself a traditional/digital illustrator? I do hope to be working with placement and maybe the colour portions in the future on a digital program. Thanks,

@Mia-Clarke I am thinking of joining, but I have never done it. Do most people just pick one folktale for the whole week? Or one folktale per day per prompt? Do people make up their own story or always use a folktale? It is probably flexible on guidelines, but just want to know what is usually done.

@Kim-Rosenlof It’s super open and flexible, and not even restricted to illustration (maybe now’s the time to explore interpretive dance?). I know a lot of people pick one specific tale, but I have also seen people make up their own or just mix whatever is out there. I think the nice thing about the oral tradition is that there are so few rules (which is evident in all the different versions of all the tales), and the organisers of this challenge have really embraced that.

I haven't posted in quite a while but I've been enjoying what everyone else has been doing. Some wonderful stuff in this thread!

I went to Italy in September and have been doing some paintings based on that trip so here is the kind of thing I've been working on: Italian laundry 🙂

Did a quick little halloween scene, which I’m thinking could go well on a greeting card someday. 👻

@Mia-Clarke It would make a good greeting card! It's a very well composed image.

@Kim-Rosenlof I second what @Mia-Clarke said about it being really open. I personally am trying to make up a folktale inspired story based on the prompts. So essentially a story that is told in 7 images, which is proving to be quite the challenge, but good one nonetheless.

Another person who does the challenge in this way is Cynthia Cliff. I recommend checking out her past prompt based projects, in which she tells a story.

Also I find the creators of the challenge chose the word for each day wisely (you can tell they put thought into which word falls on what day) and if you do a little research as to the significance of each word as it relates to folklore tradition, it can be a really good jumping off point for storytelling.

Hope this helps to get a better idea of the challenge (I too was a little confused about it's open-endedness at first).
