I thought we could try to organize our WIP to one feed, just an idea. I'm putting mine up, and I'm ready for critiques. I haven't put in details yet, I'm sure I'll have to change up the composition.

Great idea. I think with a concept like this you should use some three point perspective. Have the mouse already in the air. Either looking down from the the mouse's perspective at the room below. Or looking up at the mouse from below. Do a bunch of thumbnails to practice.

Neat idea! Watch your tangents as there are quite a few:
eraser touching the rope, the book spines touching the balloon edge on the left, the pencil touching the balloon edge on the right, the string hanging down from the balloon and crossing the curve of the candle.
I assume that line hanging out of the pot is a rope, but it is tapered some, resembling a tail.

The evil robot makes good suggestions. You've got a cool, pieced together hot air balloon, why not show it in all it's glory? Think about how changing the particular moment in time, will contribute to the feeling of the piece.

Other than that, if you were to leave the composition as is, you have some tangents happening with the eraser/rope and the balloon/pencil.

@tombarrettillo funny about tangents....you get a kind of sixth sense for them after a while.

@tessw You know, those areas were bothering me and now I know why lol. Good eye! I really do need to look for them more often. Thanks!

@evilrobot Well he actually is slightly off the desk, barely in the air which is why the rope gets tapered. I didn't put details or shadow, so it's hard to tell. I need to work on the perspective as well. Thanks so much! Awesome ideas.

This my rough idea for transportation. I am wondering if the composition leads your eye right off the page or if the trees in the background/reflection are enough to lead your eye back around? Any other thoughts welcome.

Some thumbs on an idea for Transportation. I'm having a hard time choosing angles, choosing to use crinkled soda can or surfboard...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! I know I've shown up out of the blue from time to time but I wanted to say hello to all and thanks to SVS for this platform. Art rules. 🙂 -TA

@fauxtoddgraphy I like the action in number 4, I would say probably not to number 1. The head on point of view is very difficult to pull off.

Hi guys! Great idea to start a WIP thread. It's cool to learn from each other as we work through these. Here is my idea for the transportation theme: Witch-portation in the Modern Age

@holleywilliamson Neat idea! I think you need to bring the view down closer to the water, and make the bug and stone fill up more of the scene. Also, the person's stance is more of someone who is off balance or falling. Google some images on people skipping stones. Most people keep their body facing the direction they are throwing, leaning in the direction of the throwing arm as they fling the stone past their bent leg. Lastly, fewer contact points on the water would make the skipping more believable (there are too many too close together). Maybe lose the first, third, and fifth ripples, and they should be in a direct line between the thrower and the stone.
