Anyone planning to do the Smart Dummies challenge?
-
I’m getting ready to do Smart Dummies next month and was wondering whether anyone hereabouts was planning to as well. Basically, it’s a challenge to sketch out an entire dummy in one month.

I know lots of you probably want to do Inktober so two challenges back to back might be a lot. But for those of us wanting to do children’s books, it’s a great thing to get involved in.

@sarahluann I'm in. Thanks for posting this -- I'd totally forgotten about it!
-
@sarahluann Yes!, I did it for the first time last year and it really helped keep me on track and focused.
-
@sarahluann thanx for the info. This may help me with my book. I recently printed out blank pages to start rough sketches on. I’ve never done this before so I’m treading water here. Lol. Not drowning yet.
. I’m gonna go check out the dummy contest.
What are you working on? -
@sarahluann thanks for posting. Thinking about doing this....
-
Cool! I’m glad I’m not the only one. Maybe we could have a Smart Dummies thread here for accountability or something, if people are interested.
-
That's awesome! I'll make it a goal for next year. I have some book ideas, but need to work on a manuscript first.
-
@sarahluann good idea!
-
@sarahluann Where do you find the time? You amaze me; I need to take "time management" lessons from you, it amazes me what you accomplish!!!
-
@lmrush Um, well there is a reason you haven't been invited to my house for an illustrators lunch... its a disaster most days. I have to balance what would best keep me sane on a given day--cleaning or drawing. Some days its the first, but usually the second. It helps to have an amazing husband who has basically taken over the laundry (I just fold and put away, sometimes not even that) and taking out garbage/recycling, as well as various other chores. He knows I do better overall when I have my drawing time, and he wants me to have this career.
-
@sarahluann I'm right there with you! I have to scoot away the clutter out of frame when I want to take a picture of one of my kids in the house.
-
I was just doing image research for crazy kids and I found this. Too funny not to share. talk about playing doctor. LMAO!!!
Now back to work. =)x -
Well someone was very open with their kids about the facts of life! XD whew. And they look so happy about it!
I got a start for my dummy--just scribbly thumbnails with notes to myself. But my story is already working better than it was, so I'm looking forward to this month! How are you all doing?

Great tip! I will definitely try.
