I painted this for my mom today. It was fun. She came and chatted while I painted. Not a master concept, but it was nice watching what the color did on arches 300lb paper and not be stressed about the result. Most of the time I using that paper I’m super stressed and do enjoy the process. It is completely different then my everyday paper: -
@burvantill Have you tried Xerox transfer? reverse a xerox copy of the image and use a solvent such as acetone to transfer the image? - pretty sure folks use it on aluminum plates for printmaking - It works really well on paper too

@Kevin-Longueil I didn’t think of it. I’ve seen it done in Pinterest but have never had a reason to do it... until now. Lol. This is a one time project for a family member. I am creating a mask on the aluminum with tape and mask it goop. Then I’m going to spray paint the black part of the image. THEN I’m going to do that 2 more times for the other two colors. Like a really time consuming print process but with spray paint
. I’m wondering now if that xerox transfer would leave residue that the paint would flake away from 
. No worries. I’m already neck deep. Thank you for the tip, though.

@kylebeaudette I love the details, coloring and fat nose bridge on this character! I'm not sure of the context, and I know he has an axe and a torch, but to me he's a little bit Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

In the middle of painting a Chromicorn. First time using Frisk wax free tracing down paper from my original drawing. Worked a treat. It's so time consuming redrawing it. Now I can just concentrate on painting.

@Aleksey That's looking good! Have you checked out Alphonso Dunn? He has a YouTube channel and a couple of books all about pen and ink. His Pen & Ink Drawing Workbook has helped me a lot. Still making my way through it.

@SketchyArtish i have! I have trouble getting what I need from his videos though. His explanations are good but don’t answer a lot of my questions sometimes. These books help me more.

@Aleksey Do you think the second book would be valuable even if the environments I am trying to design are not fantasy environments? I have difficulty envisioning backgrounds and often rely on photos but would like to improve my ability to conceive fictional environments.

@demotlj hmm i dont think you need it if you’re not doing fantasy but it will help because they talk about gathering regerences, they talk about how to think about the ecosystems and the cultures you might find in those places. What’s really helping me with the fantasy book is seeing examples and steps of how he approaches his textures. Like when you try to do textures on your own sometimes you end up guessing on how to approach it but having clear examples of other artists’ approach really helps. So i guess as a reference book and for art studies it is very helpful even if you dont wanna do fantasy. Theres also a small page on different mediums and tools, i really want to try brown ink now. Like any book you kinda just get a little bit of something out of it for yourself.

@burvantill This looks great! I love the composition and everything and totally understand the struggle with watercolour! I find sometimes the darks and glows of light are especially difficult to achieve.

I think it’s my version of fan art. Lots of feedback on my posts. I think it’s because we all love the lake and are ready for summer. All these bright colors are killing me. I like the look, but it looks so different from my other work. It’s for the nautical challenge for spoonflower.
