Gonna post my WIPs as is tradition 🙂 Feedback is always welcome!

So I've got three pitches for 'godzilla's next challenger'. I'm partial to numbers one and two (the robot and the giant eye) But I'd love to know which one resonated with you 🙂

Gonna try this poll thing again!

        @Braden-Hallett

Love the story for the Eye Ball but I love the space and perspective in the Robot one and like the experiments of the mutant dogs -tiny head one reminds me of the newer American Godzilla's vs. the older Japanese Dino head. I voted for the Big Eye -maybe try out what a stone in his eye would look like upon just impact.

I like how you set up everything -thumbnails, pitch, keys, story. What is the difference between a pitch and a story in this case?

@Braden-Hallett I voted for the robot mainly because the perspective and layout are great. I think it’s important to really see the challenger on this one.

            Hi Braden!

Zomg amazing work as always! Your skills are just... wow. I have zero comments regarding your art/execution.

In terms of story, I am in love with the idea that Godzilla's next challenger is a young girl. LOVE IT. I'd love for her to have a way to actually defeat Godzilla, though, instead of just slowing him down (like David vs. Goliath). But that eye imagery is super powerful!

I think the robot-building idea is great, but I want to see the finished product and actually see the robot using its super cool weapons to fight Godzilla. Omg what if the robot ACTUALLY shot out trains as bullets?! Crazy, haha.

The dog idea is hilarious, but I think the dog breed needs to be something less friendly-looking (is it a golden retriever?) if I'm going to believe that this dog has a chance against Godzilla. Or maybe a really smart dog like Bolt. Or even a cat? Maybe I'm veering too far off now, haha.

Thank you for sharing your process with us! It definitely challenges me to strive to be better in every way. Love your work~! ❤

@Braden-Hallett love seeing the pitch, keywords and value thumbs (the backstory is a nice add as as well). I think all of your ideas are extremely fun.

I would say you are executing on the little girl the best. I would suggest exaggerating the slingshot as it is key to understanding the story. I really like the thumb that is a closeup on the girl as well. It would provide a little more opportunity to explore the girl's character more. But I am torn because the one you picked fits the keywords so well.

                Great ideas!

Oh man all of these are so good. I think the girl is the most unique and has a really strong composition. The dog one i think has lots more story to it. Im bias and this giant robots are cool, but giant monsters are cooler.

I really like that giant mech with Godzilla in the background. It just screams Godzilla’s challenger

Love the concept of the big eye and the girl. I actually love one of the rough thumbnails better (no.3 in the first row of the big eye thubmnails). The girl is placed high up, feels more threatening toward the big eye.

Thanks everyone for the feedback 😃 I'm torn between the eye and the robot. Maybe I'll finish both.

@Erin-Cortese I think you're right. Seeing the 'challenger' (challengee?) ACTUAL godzilla in the picture may be the deciding factor. The big eye could be for any monster 🙂

@Heather-Boyd A pitch is a detached description. A 'story' is just me trying to get a little closer to the illustration by coming up with something a little more interesting. Text that could go in the image if it were a kid's book I suppose.

they're all great. I am partial to the dog because I love dogs 🙂 but I think it's really cool seeing just part of him in the image like in the thumbnail, and same for the giant eyeball, really cool. robot is great too though! Hard to pick!

I'm gonna do the giant robot. Then the eye if there's time since I really like it. But I think Godzilla (a recognizable godzilla) needs to be in the picture somewhere. I guess it all depends. Is it a wise idea to rely on the title of the picture to be part of the storytelling?

Anyhoo! Here's a rough sketch of the giant robot. Next step is linework 🙂

@Braden-Hallett You are killing it as usual, this looks awesome! I don’t think it is absolutely necessary for Godzilla to be in the composition as the focus is on the challenger, but I do think it works here if you want to include it. I think it works just as well without it though. Lol, that’s probably not helpful sorry.

Oh wow, I actually love all 3 of your compositions, they all look so fun! I think my favourite is the robot one, i just love the kids face in the foreground and all the little details you've put in - and i've just noticed Godzilla's silhouette in the background, AMAZING!
