I'm thinking April's prompt is gonna be another last second effort.

This book cover came out of the Ideation class. It has been more difficult than necessary because I did the front first and then decided to wrap it around (which required a lot of redrawing), but it's all a learning process! Not finished yet (still needs some tweaks and adjustments), but getting close...

I have three things on the go, which is pretty cool. Still playing with contest submission, things I want to change but I dont know what lol. I’m just continually picking at it and seeing if I can figure it out. And for a Harry Potter fan art piece I’m playing with using masks to reveal shapes and textures and thinking about comp etc. Early stages but here’s where I am. And then putting in local colours for some characters I’m working on for a possible book collab with a friend , good practice at characters even if nothing happens with the book.

@Heather-Boyd thanks 😊. I’m preferring that style in the second one too ( similar to the kitty looking out the window I did last week). Some things are a changing for me and my style soon I think 😁

I decided to use the end of the month to do an old art redraw. I'm decently happy with it. 4 years helps a lot I think.

I've been playing with the pencils and MaxU watercolor brushes in Procreate trying to get the digital to look more traditional. Coming closer. (Not sure what the pixelation is around the edges. I'll have to look at that.)

Took @Jake-Parker 's Inktober advice for April (yes, I'm just getting to these now), and tried out Spectrum Noir markers for my "green" prompt.

@jdubz - I'm seeing more texture in the Procreate version, too.

@jdubz - I really like the colors & and the way you created a tunnel look with the light. The ghost character is adorable! I like the shapes and textures of the trees & the shadowy foreground plants.

For some things to work on, the dog's front leg(?) looks kind of like it's coming out of its neck or like it's something hanging off its back. Also, the tree next to the dog seems like it's further away (to me), but the dog's tail is behind the tree.

The log and trail/ground don't seem to be quite up to the quality of the rest of the piece. The dark hole of the log also draws the eye down--without a real "payoff". Maybe put an animal inside? (But I think that would take away from the ghost's loneliness if you saw another animal it could possibly be friends with.) It also looks less organic than the rest of the forest due to the straight cut and the even hollowness inside. Here are some images from a Google search to show what I mean:

                                        c77e8266-c7b2-4e80-91ab-31a5a75a3592-image.png

                                        d99e37b7-69b4-4bb7-98c2-6eb7b3851810-image.png

                                        8ba68ef8-7e5f-41ca-8ff2-b12337827fe3-image.png

Another thing I really like about the lighting is how you gave off a little blue light from the ghost so the tree is lit from one side with warm light and the other side with the cool light. The illustration has a nice balance of warm & cool, and light and dark.

@aprilshin - This rock rhino is very cute! It reminds me of how some people like to paint on small rocks. I like the textures of the rhino & background.

@Miriam Good points - I think what I'll do is give it some time and I'll revisit it. I was just noticing that I want to redo a bit of the upper forest as well because some of the trees look flat and their distance isn't translating based on how I did some of them.
