Our SVS Virtual Studio AUGUST 2021π»

Hey everyone, after spending a grueling 33.5 hours on this (according to the Procreate time counter) of which about 10 hours were spent on a false start (see WIP picture below) I'll rather call this done and move on.
Some background: These kids are Elias and Daniel, part of my original cast of characters I've been doodling on and off over the last 25 years. I have done some limited run comics with them but nothing too special yet, and here I wanted to go further into developing the universe they should live in. In this case here we see Daniel's room β as messy as any normal 9-year old kid's room should be. In fact it should be messier, but drawing and painting all that mess takes a lot of time. Just for comparison I'm attaching the initial coloring draft which after some good advice was changed to its final form.
Also: Is it normal to spend 20+ hours in a piece like this? I always wish I could work faster so I could have more things to show and post on social media. But speed isn't one of my virtues...

I do an underpainting first, usually with Burnt Sienna. Then I build layers of color on top and use White Gouache for the highlights. Here's a snapshot of the underpainting for one of the images.
@Tiffany-Thomas wow what a cool way to work! I'm not a watercolorist, but it think I will try out that method! it think it will work well with the way my brain works.

@Braden-Hallett Boy needs to hold on to more than that lols.
-
Drawing from life, and thinking about children's illustration at the same time.
-
Messenger mice bring a letter to a rat guard tower. Fanart for Larry MacDougall's'Gwelf', but with a little of my own style in there. -

This would involve slowing down. Or stopping. Ain't gonna happen!

Sketching for fun, and to learn in procreate. Characters are from a frame in a black and white Star Wars comic

@keithryanstudio Very cool!

@Tristan-Lapetz thank you!

Okay, Colin August challenge. Days 15-19
-
Working on some characters for a preschool curriculum. They are adventure cubs.
Not my usual style but I like it. In hindsight maybe if this had been my Alfred I might have gotten into the sweet 16. Heβs kinda cute. -
Been working on a character version of a client for her to use on her marketing. Its been a while since I did vector stuff in Illustrator.
-
And here is the other cub.
-
Making stickers for my running group
-
Teaching value on grey-toned paper to my drawing kids. Thought I would try with pen and ink myself. Used a pentel brush pen. Then I took it into procreate and add an ink wash and some fine white lines.

More foxes

Doin' scenes from the webcomic I'll never finish. I'm gonna hopscotch around to random that I have planned/find interesting

Okay, Colin
Day21
This "month" challenge has morphed into just an "art" challenge now. I have officially fallen behind far enough that I won't finish by the 31st. BUT I am completely okay with that. Sometimes there are more important things that get in the way. Family, job, friends in peril, writing a manuscript, phone/internet providers upgrading your cel phone number with the new hotspot that you ordered instead of adding it to the account , the decision to go with a new website provider and domain name and the multiple time CONSUMING chores that go with that decision. Prioritization is imperative. -
I just realized I hadn't shared day 20.
