I'm just trying to get back into the swing of things. I am finishing up working on the perspective class, I will start my October monster project I've done the past two years (I think), and am just trying to build my skills through actually finishing the classes on here and practicing so that my next project will be easier. I am finishing up prepping my Uncle Carl Has a Chicken on His Head project to be publishable. I will most likely be putting it on create space so that it can be done as print on demand or e-book. I might get some printed to have on hand for family and friends . No pictures to show right now though 🙂

Here's my unfinished assignment 4. I will go back eventually and finish them. We were supposed to convey specific emotions:

@TessaW ah man - those are great! It really is amazing how the moods change with each drawing.

I'm messing around with color and light right now, and trying to get loose with paint - but that last bit isn't working out for me (having a hard time breaking the control).

I was going to concentrate on figures/faces/hands these next couple weeks and David's head and hands class just opened up. Anyone do a class yet? $450 is a bit much for me right now, but I am so tempted to just bite the bullet. I'd love to hear people's experiences.

@kaitlinmakes Hi Kaitlin, I took the class, and I can highly recommend it. While I still need a lot more practice, I feel like the tools are in place and was amazed by how much I improved over just a few weeks. @davidhohn is great--he really breaks everything down and is super helpful and accessible.

I'm waiting for feedback on sketches (the art director is sick and didn’t keep her promised deadline), so I’m going to spend the day filing my expenses, preparing the shipping for Bologna, starting to look into accommodation and travel arrangements for Bologna and New York, trying (for the 10th time this past season) to draft a new social media plan, getting on the phone with the tax department and doing other fun things of that sort....
I wanted to share this to honor the least glamorous parts of freelancing, so that I recognize that that is part of the job too ;-))

@kaitlinmakes Thank you! Your gouache studies are looking really promising both in terms of color and light as well as looseness. I think you're getting there!

The AD recovered enough to approve the sketches - so now moving on with a pretty cool educational project. Badly paid, but lots of fun...Only a sneak detail shot...

It's pretty rad to hear your behind the scenes work.

Thanks ladies for the feedback - I'm finally starting to get what the teachers mean when they talk about colors interacting with each other to communicate glow (and how they change when laid down next to each other).

A Hellboy I sculpted this year. One of my references and finished sculpt.
It's about 6 inches tall, pictures make it look bigger.

I’ve been playing around with a part scribble, part crosshatch look. Trying to get a soft feel to it.

Sooo in an effort to shove myself completely out of my comfort zone ( which for me is away from people) I signed up for 2 classes at a local community arts organization. I attended my first ever life drawing class last night which was so incredibly intimidating cos everyone had clearly done it before. But by the end of the evening it was clear I was going to learn a lot! And I met some like minded people who were fun. 0_1538423945780_DB0F1CA9-F367-4E5D-A7E4-38207D12F0AE.jpeg

I went to my first recently--and the model goes through these really fast poses and he switches after like a minute and I've drawn two lines!! NOOOOO slow down!! Ha ha!!
