Just completed 5 week life drawing class. Still a lot to learn but felt good to get something looking almost human on the paper! But more practice needed so will be going to some drop in sessions in future. 0_1541422008685_DFA0195A-092F-446A-9C92-2869B5E5BC75.jpeg

I picked up this bad boy for $5 this weekend at the thrift store. Woot! No more standing at the window to trace my art. πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

@burvantill So jealous!! Ha! I have always wished one would appear when I'm out thrifting, but no luck so far. Enjoy it!

@eli I know! I’ve been trying for years to get an old one from a buddy who works at a school. It was a total lucky fluke. πŸ‘πŸ˜ƒ

I'm starting a little late on this. This is going to be a two birds with one stone piece. The SVS Learn November contest, "Slow", and the SCBWI November contest, "Ritual". I'm at the value stage...obviously. πŸ˜‚
Since my art table is being monopolized by my book dummy project, I'm going to try and do this whole thing in Procreate 😳.

Sometimes it’s good to let a picture breath a bit, then come to it with fresh eyes. Sometimes what is needed is quite obvious, other times not. Anyway, revisited Samwise and Shelob.

@kaitlinmakes it’s actually very hot. 🀣🀣🀣. After a couple of minutes I have to back up and cool off πŸ˜‚πŸ€ͺ
This can’t be a permanent solution but it’s okay for now. 😬

Practising digital sketching and drawing some dogs 🐢 using shapes. Finally found a brush that feels ok and seeing some improvement (I think ?)

@missmushy Cute! Do you have a pressure sensitive stylus? If so, what do you think about it?

@burvantill yes, I am using Apple Pencil on IPad Pro. I love it. I had tried other options before but nothing felt natural to me.

@missmushy I tried a couple out at the Apple store the other day and I had to push hard to get them to respond. It made for a very unstable line. Do you find that you have to push down harder? In hindsight I was wondering if it was because they were not laying on a firm surface. They were propped up with the flimsy covers. πŸ€”

@burvantill no don’t have to push hard at all. Not sure why that might be. Unless the settings in store pencil were weird for some reason.

@burvantill I've been using an Apple pencil with my iPad Pro for over a year and find it very responsive. I did eventually get a screen protector that had some tooth to it in order to make it feel more like I'm drawing on paper instead of glass but that was only $10. I don't remember the brand now but there is a discussion about the best screen protectors emulating the feel of paper somewhere in the forum.

I miss sharing stuff on the forum...but at the moment all projects I'm working on are under wraps and I don't have time for personal stuff...Anyhow, this is a section of a spread I'm working on that I particularly like - sometimes I think that working under harsh deadline brings out my best work in that it limits my over-rendering tendencies...

@missmushy No, it's just a normal digital pencil held by a patient hand πŸ™‚
I like to work in digital as I would work traditionally - only with super-powers. I find too many shortcuts make the art look "plastic".
