@Squirrelsize 1 or 3. 1 has less distractions than 3 but 3 has a more intimate angle. Number 2 is to straight forward -literally in this case.

I'm new here and its actually a little scary to post or comment, but yours is the one that finally drew me in! Thank you for being daring enough to share something so real and heartfelt. I hear a lot of good advice about composition, character placement etc. There are many good options. One thing I want to mention is that I see the focal point and the strength being in the quality of their embrace, and of all things I hope you don't lose this. I see it in #5 in your first round of thumbnails and in #1 and #2 in your second round. With that pose you have captured a tender mutual clinging that I love. Nice job. I look forward to seeing where you take it.

@Heather-Boyd Hahaha, yeah #2 is really straight forward. I'll have to see if I can combine those two good qualities from #1 and #3

Hey @suenaumi, Welcome to the forms! Thanks for commenting! Its always nice to have fresh eyes and a new perspective on a project. You have some really good insight. Good focal point tips. Let me know in the future if you think my piece is loosing the strength of the embrace. I think you are right, keeping it would be key 🙂

Next Draft! The big one in the center is the newest. I included the top voted for comparing and contrasting.
            Tell me your thoughts?

I zoomed in a little to get better detail of the moment. How do you all feel about the angle? Also, I put mom's hand on my shoulder, do you all like that? In real life she was too weak to do that, but also in real life, if she had the strength to comfort me she would have. So it could be symbolic.

I included the hand-pick bouquet of flowers on the bed. During that hard time, to take my mind away from everything, I got extremely obsessed with this flower garden I started. I would pick flowers for her and put them on her side table to enjoy.

@Squirrelsize , I really like your last sketch, and I've just had a look of your work on IG and can see how you would render this with soft light.
I lost my mother a year and a half ago too and I can definitely relate to the emotion in your drawing. I think the hand on the shoulder is a great idea as it's the moment before she passed away, wanted to be strong for the little squirrel until her last breathe.
Looking forward to see it render!

@marine Awe, Thanks girl, Sorry about your mom. I feel ya there. It will get easier.

I'm still up in the air about how i'm going to render it. I would like it to be a soft light for sure, i'm thinking I might try something new. Maybe mixing my sketch and water color style with my graphic style. but its kinda scary and would probably take a while. But i'm sure with peeps like you helping and giving input, I'll get through 🙂

                  @Squirrelsize Thanks ❤

Experimenting on the style of your illustration is a great idea and I'm sure here on Svs is the good place to do so. And I've seen your account, you're multi talented! So impressed by the goat sculptures!

@marine Awe! Thanks! I love working with my hands 🙂 I'm gonna start another goat sculpture set soon. But this time I'm changing up the subject to Autism awareness instead of Cancer. My Cousin has Autism. I'm excited for it!

Okay, you convinced me! I'm gonna try a new illustration style! I'm a little nervous, but I think it will be a good learning experience.

@Squirrelsize - the small details like including the warm embrace from your mother and the flowers on the bed are just lovely. I'm really loving the middle/most recent version. I think zooming-in was a really good choice and brings in the best of all versions.

Played around with some color studies, this one is my fav so far. Anyone have any color suggestions I should try?

Here is another color study idea! What do you all think about the gray with a pop of color? I think it works better with the subject matter vs. the colorful one. Vote which you all like: Color or Gray?

@Squirrelsize I vote for color; the faces are sad enough for me, but through the color it has some little happy moment for these two characters.

@Squirrelsize I vote for this warm sadness, the second feels too cold and more of an after than a before. But I think the second one shows more of an unsettling grief.

                                    Compare and contrast:
I do really like #1, but just a little worried its too bright?
