@xin-li I like the watercolour coloured pencils combination too 🙂 I usually do a light layer in watercolour first (usually a warm yellow) then fill in larger shapes in watercolour, and draw on top in coloured pencils. I really like my Derwent colorsoft coloured pencils - they blend nicely, and come in a lot of nice colours.

@Braden-Hallett Dear Professor Hallett, here is my completed assignment. Please excuse the rough work but I have been overwhelmed lately with homework from my “How to Ink” class with Dr. Hallet. He is a demanding teacher. I hope, however that you will find this acceptable. Sincerely, Harassed Student.

Professor Hallett will push you to the limits. 😂

I'm still doing the draw 100 somethings with elephants for my daily challenges. Over 2/3 of the way there! Woohoo!

@karolifo thank you so much for the tips. I will definitely try these.
One question: does Derwent colorsoft coloured pencil works on dark background? (e.g. using white color pencil to get highlight, or lighter lines on top of a darker shapes). I have seen these effects in other people's illustrations, but when I try to do it with a few fable castell colored pencils I got, it did not work out so well. I am wondering if I have chosen the wrong type of color pencil, or maybe that type of results is done with some other art supplies.

Squeezing in another piece or two before my first portfolio showcase in 2 weeks! This one expands on the girls stargazing that I did a few weeks back.

Teaching composition and painting still lifes at school. Here is my WIP. After looking at @Lee-White 's new stuff I am trying out some textures and I blocked in my values. So. Much. Fun. IMG_20190830_093802_106.jpg

@xin-li you may want to give a white charcoal or chalk pencil a try, something like this: https://www.generalpencil.com/blog/category/charcoal-white

Not sure how it would interact or blend with colored pencil. I also know of a few artists who will go into a pencil/watercolor drawing with white acrylic paint or gouache at the very end to pop the highlights.

Still in a rough drawing stage, but it is coming along. I am planning on doing some inking studies along side finishing up the penciling.
