People and Character Studies in November

@burvantill hi, i think your kids look like preteens is because of the size of the head in proportion to the eyes, nose, mouth, etc. for example if you look at your reference image, the kids’ eyes are closer to the edge of their faces coz their heads are smaller. While compared to the eyes in your drawings, there is now a larger gap between the eyes and the edge of the face. So yeah, I think it’s just the size of the head in proportion to the face that’s a bit off. I hope this was helpful.

@Nyrryl-Cadiz yes thankyou. all advice is welcome!

@Heather-Boyd LOOKING GOOD

Working through the Posing Characters at the same time as trying to find the head proportions. Heads are tough. I went back and redrew a page from my inktober story and am much happier with it. Not as stiff,
thanx to the gestures class. But I redrew his little head 10 times! LOL. I wanted to do it on paper because I think using digital has made me less confident in my drawing skills. UNDO will be my downfall if I'm not careful. @Heather-Boyd , you are killing the anatomy.
PS. I am noticing a long neck trend in my drawing of heads. hmmmm. -
@burvantill your trace over sketches are nice, got some of my own to do this week for the arm bones.
-
Finished up Stylizing Characters class, pretty helpful how to read other people’s styles. Kept at arm anatomy and the elbow, quite cool how we are built. Not as much done as hoped, but a lot of struggle with my father’s depression has left me quite bleak.
I had thought of doing an advent Christmas challenge, but I want to try to finish up some classes undone and work on a few dream portfolio works. After all it’s christmas, no need for extra stress.

Proko’s Loomis head exercise part 1 (7 months ago video). This is actually really useful and I added in my own observations.
Used Pinterest portrait references for these faceless ladies.
Thanks,

I’m having a tough time with heads. I borrowed the Loomis book for drawing heads and it’s got me alllll jacked up. I’m going to start over again with Proko and not look in the Loomis book anymore. I think Proko explains the process better.
-
If you do the same video as I did and share it, we can do it together.
Part 1. I’m on Part 2 tomorrow.
-
@Heather-Boyd Yes! I started watching part 1 before dinner. I will finish it tonight and practice before bed.
thankyou for the encouragement.
-
Proko quick heads part 1. Feeling better about this. Thanx @Heather-Boyd

The end of this month’s work on people. Main focus was still Loomis’s head and jaw shape. In order of drawing and I added observational details to see whether I could improve. Proko’s son was my best and my first baby/kid so I’m pleased. Everyone else was a kindly ish of themselves. Now I am returning to finishing up style questionnaire.
