NOVEMBER CONTEST: SLOWVEMBER
-
This was a great contest this month. I had a lot of fun and learned soooo much.
I enjoyed putting all the contest energy towards a project I was working on anyway!
Very pleased with the results. Thanks @Lee-White and all those that gave feedback on the forums.

@Jonas-Zavacky This is just great. Love it.

-Edit, smaller file size to meet the 500kb requirement.Lack of time this month. I started and finished this today, only got about 5 hours into it. I see many things I could touch up and refine. Will take this further later. Pencil sketch, digital colors.

This is my first time participating in a contest here, but I've been listening to the podcasts and lessons for awhile now.
I thought a lot about what subject matter was inspiring to me, and so I chose to illustrate this moment with my kids. I wanted it to feel like the moment I walked in and saw them, so I was going for a kind of private peaceful moment. Also, since I tend to avoid backgrounds I took that as part of my own personal challenge as well.

So I wasβt sure I was going to get this done. But I have been working on character consistency. I still have a lot to practice! I have enjoyed looking at all the entries.

@CosmoglotJay I love this, I could see it in a graphic novel. There's a beautiful eery feel to it.
-
@carlianne this is super sweet...love the little details
-
@CLCanadyArts beautiful work! fireplace scenes are always speaking to me!
-
@Robert-Maine Thank you! Glad you like it
-
@anya-macleod thanks for the tip.
@Pamela-Fraley Saw your work on Instagram. Beautiful piece. I am also learning how to work with watercolor and pencil. So glad finding people here on the same journey.
@Rachel-Horne thank you. Your piece is very playful. I have been looking at a few illustrators working with paper collage, and I want to bring some of the collage energy into my own work. But I do not know where to begin. -
@suenaumi I come from a painting background too and this is my first entry. I think what you've created here is beautiful!
-
Wonderful work everybody!

@CLCanadyArts We should be more specific with the cut off time. I will discuss it with the judges and see if we can get a actual time zone cut off. Most everyone has them submitted before I start to pull them all for the slideshow, so its really not an issue.
Great work everyone! I am getting started on the slideshow, it should be ready later today!
-
@Rachel-Horne Thanks! Thatβs what I was going for - glad it gets there for you.
-
@CLCanadyArts wow this really looks great!

@deborah-Haagenson Thank you so much! I am pretty frustrated because I have no idea how to post an adequate picture of a 24x36 canvas on here under 500kb in a way that does it any justice? I suppose its finally time to face the digital world head on and learn what i need to learn (I've been resisting it big-time.) I just don't want to give up the feel, smell, and emotive quality of oil paint, and yet I realize my work just doesn't seem to fit in here. I'm curious, how does it feel to you to transition from traditional painting to digital?
-
@Heather-Boyd Thank you Heather! I'm glad it made you think.
-
@suenaumi I feel the same way. I am dividing up my time between traditional drawing, oil painting and digital artwork. Digital was not going to be my primary focus, but right now it's become that. Actually, I'm glad it has. My three year goal, a year ago, was to be able to illustrate pictures - Environments, Characters in perspective and tell stories with my artwork. I had planned to do that with oil painting and I still plan to, but I am learning so much right now while practicing digital techniques that will help me achieve this goal. I have a long way to go too, so I think it was a good thing I started when I did. I have been using Photoshop since 7.0, so I was lucky there, but using it to draw is where I'm finding difficulty.
