Nightfall piece - thoughts on light and shadow would be great
-
Hi everyone - here’s where I’m at for my Nightfall piece. I’ve been doing Lee’s class on Light and Shadows and I’m wondering if my shading and light is right on this picture and if so, should accentuate it? Any suggestions or a advice would be great, thanks

@Rachel-Horne This is lovely. Maybe play around with really pushing the values of the things in shadow so the moonlight is emphasized? Has a sweet feeling here.

Hi @Rachel-Horne generally speaking her shadow would be expanding outward and be larger for her chair and body. Kind of like the light from the window is doing. I would deepen the shadow more.

@Laurel-Aylesworth Hi Laurel and thanks for taking the time to answer. Do you mean that objects in the shade should be darker? I did wonder about this...
-
@chrisaakins that’s great Chris, thanks for the advice. I had a feeling there was something not right about the chair shadow, I’ll take another look.
-
@Rachel-Horne Just to make the room darker where the shadow is.
-
@Laurel-Aylesworth thanks, yeah, that makes sense.

That’s a sweet image. Have you ever tried doing a grayscale version. Or a mirror image.
Sometimes it helps you to see things
Sometimes it doesn’t help
Can’t wait to see any next steps. -
@peteolczyk thanks Pete - they’re really good ideas, I’ll try them
