@Braden-Hallett Oh that sounds fun, and I'd like to showcase! πŸ˜ƒ I'd have to steal my boyfriend's microphone but that can be arranged lol

Hi @Braden-Hallett, maybe we can share a recording of our pieces with voice over? I’m down for that, but live painting maybe not so much since I don’t have much free time at the moment. I’m busier than before with this damn virus...

Great idea! There's always something to be gained by observing someone do their thing. I'd definitely tune in.

My process is still in development I am afraid but I'd be interested in tuning into a couple.

@EliaMurrayArt Were you there for Will's videos the past few days? I believe he had everything done already, but demonstrated the process in little chunks, where he could show the technique, but then already had layers saved that was the finished product of the technique. He said a piece like the one he was working on would normally take around 20 hours. It was still very informative.

This may be a way for others to model their demonstrations.

I am really interested in how other artists work, like always want to see behind the scene. But I have a hard time imagining myself doing a showcase in 40mins and make it interesting for others to watch. I could easily spend 40mins not coming up with anything that I am remotely satisfied. I do not mind sharing my process for 40 minutes at all, but I am just worried it would be so boring to watch.

I'm more than willing. My only concern is that I'm still working out what my process actually IS. So I could share what I do today right now which might be different in a month from now πŸ™‚

I love this idea, Braden, great suggestion and I've love to see your process since your art is amazing, and there's so much we could learn from each other in this SVS community for sure. I don't feel like I have a lot to share but I'd be happy to give it a go. I'd be more inclined to want to pre-record rather than go live (I get nervous), especially since I think I work a bit more slowly than a lot of other artists I know.

I also have no idea about how to do it, e.g. what recording app to use and what hardware, such as microphone or whatever. Anyone got some good advice or links to good tips on how to set up and record tutorials or time lapses etc?

@MattBaker replying to my own comment here, looks like I can screen record with Quicktime on my Mac and use my computer's somewhat tinny microphone for sound.

I'd still like to know what the more professional setups are for this kind of thing though πŸ™‚

I would like to share because I’ve gotten good feedback on some of my short process videos with watercolor. Although, I GUARANTEE that it will be poorly recorded with long awkward silences. 😬

would it be just drawing? Or trying to finish a piece?

Whatever you wanna do! I myself would have a piece set up in layers to turn on as I went to show my process πŸ™‚

@Braden-Hallett Setting up a piece in layers to turn on layer by layer to show process is a pretty great way to do it, I reckon, thumbs up.

Maybe when I gain a little confidence in showcasing my process, would try a pre-recorded session or a pre-illustrated session and describe it layer wise.

@Braden-Hallett I would probably do the same as you, have a photoshop file set up, and turn on/off layers to talk about the process. I would very much like to share if the event is not happening in the middle of the night in my time zone (I think I am 7 hours ahead of EST time zone ) πŸ™‚

Talking about show casing process, I just want to share this:

Daniel Miyares is an artist I have been following for a while. He inspired me to pick up Sumie brush for painting. I did a bunch of ink wash painting for last inktober, and I looked his sketches carefully, and always wanted to see him live painting. Now he started a youtube channel, showing exactly that :-).

@Braden-Hallett What a great idea! I agree with some of the others that I would certainly tune in, but since I can't even seem to finish a piece in a month, how would I ever be able to do it in 40 minutes? πŸ˜‚

What I might be able to do, if I could figure out the tech, is to explain a piece that I have already done, from the Photoshop document and showing the layers. Even in that case, part of my process is that the documents gets too bogged down and once they get over about 800M and my computer starts acting wonky, I jump ship to another so I can simplify without losing past work if I need to go back.

So that puts me somewhere between choices 1 and 2.

In short, I am still not very confident in my process and it changes a bit each time. Which is, naturally, why I want to watch all of yours...

P.S. Oh yeah, and now that I see @xin-li's latest post, it would be nice to have a way to participate from Western Europe, which is once again 6 hours ahead of the EDT now that the time has changed here too (this weekend).
