Gotta put some cats in the picture frames

Spending quarantine working on new portfolio pieces!
Lessons learned here: muted colors are okay too. Doesn't have to be bright all the time.
-
@baileymvidler Loving this so much. Even though the orange flowers are muted, it really pops against the green! Beautiful!

Fading dreams followed him down the hallway,
as he gradually emerged from his slumber.A little experiment with a new technique: pencil linework done in analog + digitally applied color.
-
@Elena-Marengoni I really like the effect!
-
@chrisaakins thank you!!!

Most stuff I do is monochrome so I thought I'd go wild and pump things up by making some paint with the pinkiest pink pigment. Slightly frustrating that my camera phone cannot comprehend how pink it is.
I eat hummus and soup so I can get the free mixing tubs that come with the food.
A rock study..

Final defeated the Inktober 52 color month!

Another Mermay idea - instead of a cutesy one maybe she was going take ass and kick names.

I've been listening to a lot of podcasts and vidcasts lately, and one day I doodled a cat. Then I put a big "C" on it, and labeled it "Cat". And it kinda snowballed from there... The completion-ist side of me has to finish it now. I'm alternating two fruit letters and two animal letters, and trying to find things that aren't really common... I'm going to be stuck with Orange for "O", though. And the only fruit that starts with an "X" is an alternative name for watermelon: "Xigua". Who knew? I'm concentrating on layered textures and trying really really hard to stay loose in my rendering, but I have discovered that doesn't come naturally and it's really easy to slip down the rabbit hole and get tight very quickly. Still, I'm having fun! Woohoo!

Lulu and Beans!

Playing and learning.

I have to take my iPad in today. There was a flaw in it and the screen cracked. Sadness. Meanwhile, I am back to Photoshop playing around with digital painting and texture:
The background texture is actually the ashes from where I was burning cardboard.
-
I added my wife as a kayaker...
-
Trying a more painty feel - on this one 95% of it was using just a flat brush and smudge. I did some line definition and some airbrushing for the lights, but I tried to keep it a bit choppy as much as I could.
I also really wanted to play with lighting and push way past what I normally do for darker tones.
-
@jdubz I like this one so much, I think this might be a good look for you. (the art style, not the mermaid bikini and fins, but who am I to judge..
)
-
@chrisaakins thanks Chris, that made me actually laugh haha

A little group of friends in my sketchbook
-
Delved into watercolor for the first time! I think I'm in love.

@Coreyartus These are so much fun! Just followed you on IG so I can keep up. The layering of textures creates a lot of drama and I'm finding this a fresh take on the alphabet.
