@carlianne You're absolutely right. I guess I need to think about what I actually want to accomplish with my work, and what kind of stories I need to tell.

      Thanks!

      Thanks for the welcome.

Unfortunately, my 4 day work week just ended but I hope to renew it later during the year and maybe even transition to a more permanent arrangement. To offset the lack of art time, I have begun scheduling specific hours each week which have been set aside for different drawing activities. Monday evenings are for theory and exercises for instance.

@Nyrryl-Cadiz Thank you so much for your kind words and also your time. The first post i've made and I've already had the benefit of coming to a realisation on where I should first take the brunt of my work! I wonder how long it would have taken me if I hadn't posted on this forum...

It's strange, the TPP podcast just now came into a conversation too on how people need to specialise into a particular form of art for their portfolio instead of just art in general. Very odd timing!

@Jade-Yaert welcome! I also joined recently (last summer) and will be looking for fellow classmates to follow along the foundations program level 2 after Xmas (I will likely have finished level 1 then, just working on light & shadow).

54 hours a week to study illustration, that is great. I also went down to work part-time a year back to free up time for arts and other personal activities, but I will be working at a much slower pace than you 😅 - I can maybe allocate 10-15h?

Anyway hope to see you around and share our progress!

@emergingeden Thank you so much for your thoughtful remarks and your honest critique! I see what you mean concerning the illustration with the old man and dog not really having a focal point and the lack of an organized, hierarchical structure. I will definitely take your suggestions to heart and explore some more layouts that help communicate a clearer narrative, namely that the old man is somewhat isolated and grumpy because of his own shortcomings and rigid personality traits. In regards to the 007 image as well, you are spot on! I did not even notice the converging lines on the nose and the zero. You definitely have a keen eye and I totally appreciate the time you took out of your day to provide such helpful observations and suggestions!
