@HeatherB Congrats on a book deal! I love these little critters! When the project is complete, it would make a cute nursery poster/ print to sell if your contract allows.

@AngelinaKizz Haha ha, Angelina what is your low end game to others is high end! I mean when you are low and think you perform low(maybe you are not really saying this!) You create great work.

Work's been a bit draining in the last couple months, but I found some time to do some fan art to relax.

@JQ Super Sculpey clay over a wire and armature. Mixed some craft sand and glued that and some rocks from the backyard onto the wooden base. And Gary’s shell was taken from a beach centerpiece I’ve had around the house for years.

@mcschweitzer thank you! It’s not a β€˜real’ one but a clients self published still is a job! They are pushing on my deadline though so I am behind on my Animal Alphabet. I have sketches for it though, I absolutely am going to finish that series

@HeatherB a self-published book is still a "real" book. It will be published and you'll be considered a published illustrator. Yes, it won't be published traditionally by the big 4, but it's still real.

@Melissa_Bailey @HeatherB Yes, and I was unable to find that piece of news heather and just wanted to agree with Melissa and saying well done.
Every step forward is to be celebrated, accept your success and don't put yourself down. As long as you have done your best it is something.
When you look back in the history of illustration and comics there was a lot of amazing work but there was also a lot of poor work and some in between. If you look at some of the early marvel comics some of the drawings were quite bad to our current standards!

This is like the philosophical question-What is art! What is a published book? And really it just comes down to, What is valued? and what is valued is work of a high standard, first and foremost and crafts men and women that dedicate their life to honing their craft.

Here is a vector art piece based on the June Inkscape Challenge, for which the prompt was "ice cream".

It's Shan Shan and her friends (my children's book characters) enjoying some dessert at the beach. The dessert they're ogling at is the delicious Southeast Asian shaved ice dessert, cendol, topped with a scoop of coconut ice cream (of course!)

Cendol (also spelt chendol) is a dessert made out of shaved ice topped with the eponymous green pandan-flavoured jelly, sweet red beans, gula melaka (coconut palm sugar, which is a rich brown color) and coconut milk. It's delicious enough on its own but ice-cream is always a plus πŸ˜‰

Painting is definitely still more intuitive for me than vector art but this was a fun challenge!

@Valerie-Light I agree, digital plein air is great. I especially like it because landscapes are my kryptonite and digital allows me to focus on the picture and not worry about mixing paint. These are nice. I like the sunlight on the head stones, and the dappled light on the path. Well done. πŸ™‚πŸ‘
