Hi guys! This is where some of us are working through How To Ink 2.0 in the weeks running up to Inktober! There are 3 weeks to get through the meatier bits of the course, which gives us just enough time πŸ˜ƒ

Everyone's welcome to participate, but in order to have access to the classes and homework you need an SVS subscription. It's worth it.

If you wanna join and want to catch up, feel free to check out week one here: https://forum.svslearn.com/topic/7905/how-to-ink-2-0-group-runthrough-week-1/123

Feel free to do digital or traditional. It's all good.

This week it's time to explore texture! TEXTURE! OF ALL THINGS TEXTURE!

      Watch:

'Texture' series of videos. Four short videos this time

      Homework:

-Follow along with Jake and copy some of his textures.

-Render at least three shapes (spheres, cubes, whatever) with three different textures.

Extra special awesome homework that... that... nah, nothing beats the marmots. Do this extra thing.

-Go and explore @Will-Terry 's class 'Painting Texture and Details' for a run down on the several basic texture types. it's paint rather than ink, but it'll still help a whole lot!!

-Apply this newfound sorcery to a drawing of your own or one of the drawing pack sheets.

      IT'S ALL COMIN' TOGETHER!!!

Feel free to post comments/questions/homework and ask for feedback here πŸ˜ƒ !

      And have fun πŸ™‚

@Braden-Hallett great tip on the Will Terry class, I hadn't checked that out yet! I'm super tired too, but determined.. even though I'm throwing out almost everything I'm doing now, I still see improvement so still putting in the work. 3:30 am here and I woke up to draw πŸ˜… it's turning into an addiction of sorts lol!

@Coley do you keep the stuff you throw out long enough to study why the art doesn’t look like you wanted?

@Aleksey yes I probably keep it too long! Then I'll go through and literally throw it out. not sure I always figure out why it doesn't work but I'm getting better at that over time.

@Braden-Hallett I definitely feel that when I try to do an actual illustration. It seems like every line has to do so much work - value, shadow, contour, volume, texture - that my mind freezes trying to choose what sort of line to put down for each part of the illustration.

Today's painting feels a bit incomplete, I think mainly the silhouette of both the monster and the girl need a bit more work. I was just excited with painting it, and impatient with sketching phase. I am glad I got the idea down though, I can always re-paint it, using this as a reference.

@Braden-Hallett I feel like this, but each ball I’m juggling has a different project name on it. I am trying to finish this 3 panel for a contest and I am thinking that I will postpone inktober. Still do the 31 days just start a few days late, because I’m excited to do my inktober project, I’m just running out of time. I’m losing 5 days this week to go on a backpacking trip. I’m going to be walking through gorgeous country but thinking about how much work I could be getting done. 🀣πŸ€ͺ

@Aleksey This is amazing! Can you tell us more about your "making comics" class?

We're all juggling lots here--and the "how to decide weight of line" when it's doing the work of value, edges, shadow/light--definitely a juggle!

                                  Textures!!! Round 1

I am really loving this section. It feels like things are finally starting to come together and all of the daily exercises are paying off! Thank you again @Braden-Hallett for putting this together. The two classes that I feel like I have learned the most from are the ones that you organized on the forum. It makes me realize how much I need structure, daily drawing, and assignments. I see the light at the end of the tunnel, BIG thanks 😊

@Susan-Marks thanks! Yeah its a class at the school of visual arts in nyc. Its a continuing ed class. $400 for 3 months. 1 night a week. Basically we bring it a sketched page and an inked paged every week and have it critiqued.
