nice work @Braden-Hallett . I'm working on catching up for the next little chunk of art time I have today. Is there any reason you have them in different colors? ie brown versus whitish grey etc or just what you picked out that day?! I'm trying to decide what color to use lol
-
soft light
-
maybe should be a little less saturated on the ball color? anyhow, it was really helpful to solidy and practice this learning through these exercises

I'm tryin' to pick out a neutral scenario so that I can have an easier time comparing the two

Ambient. This was tough. It was hard to accept it without light and shadow contrast. It looks to flat to me. I think soft light will be easier for me.
-
@Braden-Hallett nice
Is this the two overlaid? It’s subtle but good.
-
@burvantill great job on the ambient tho! It does feel weird to shade less I agree. I'm learning a lot by doing these exercises.

@Coley Thanx.
I think I just had an epiphany. It’s rainy and darkish here and I was just studying the trees outside trying to figure out why they don’t look flat. Texture! [face palm]
Duh
I’m going to add some texture lines for contour to my drawing to see if it helps. -
@burvantill ooooh very epihanyish of you! I didn't understand what you meant at first but when I reread the post, I had the epiphany too
-
Here are my hard, soft, & ambient light attempts. I think I'm caught up now! But I should do more...
The shadow shapes are a bit out in places but I think they'll do and I was mostly concentrating on the colour and feel.
My favourite part is her hair in the soft light version. I don't know if that's because the colour of the highlight worked so well or because I just really like that sort of light generally and it took me away from our current constant darkness -
I added some texture to my drawing and re-saved the ambient light. Here is soft light, which I really liked drawing and ambient again.
LOL Looking at them just now together it looks like the sun JUST went down. Totally unintended, but super cool. -

no, it was just the other lighting scenario
I'm switching back and forth to do them both a few times.

More is always good
When in doubt more can't hurt, but might help.
Nice work so far! Definitely seeing the differences in lighting scenarios!

It really does! That's really well done

Colour/value study. Aiming for a very ambient warm indoor kinda light. I think it's too warm, but I think I like the shadows and colours.
