Ambient. This was tough. It was hard to accept it without light and shadow contrast. It looks to flat to me. I think soft light will be easier for me.

@Braden-Hallett niceπŸ‘ Is this the two overlaid? It’s subtle but good.

@burvantill great job on the ambient tho! It does feel weird to shade less I agree. I'm learning a lot by doing these exercises.

@Coley Thanx.πŸ™‚ I think I just had an epiphany. It’s rainy and darkish here and I was just studying the trees outside trying to figure out why they don’t look flat. Texture! [face palm]
              Duh😜
I’m going to add some texture lines for contour to my drawing to see if it helps.

Here are my hard, soft, & ambient light attempts. I think I'm caught up now! But I should do more...
The shadow shapes are a bit out in places but I think they'll do and I was mostly concentrating on the colour and feel.
My favourite part is her hair in the soft light version. I don't know if that's because the colour of the highlight worked so well or because I just really like that sort of light generally and it took me away from our current constant darkness 😊

I added some texture to my drawing and re-saved the ambient light. Here is soft light, which I really liked drawing and ambient again.

LOL Looking at them just now together it looks like the sun JUST went down. Totally unintended, but super cool. πŸ˜ƒ

no, it was just the other lighting scenario πŸ™‚ I'm switching back and forth to do them both a few times.

More is always good πŸ™‚ When in doubt more can't hurt, but might help.

Nice work so far! Definitely seeing the differences in lighting scenarios!

Colour/value study. Aiming for a very ambient warm indoor kinda light. I think it's too warm, but I think I like the shadows and colours.
