I have given myself the assignment to revisit a classic book cover that I love very much, Pippi Longstocking. After a little bit of character design exploration, here is where I am at (still work in progress, I want to try out a few solutions for the elements in the background and I want to play with the typeface a little longer before choosing).
-
@nadyart this is so lovely, I'm really enjoying your colour palette
-
@carlianne I absolutely love your character design! They’re so cute!
I would also love to make stickers...in the future, if possible for you, it would be amazing if you could share insights of your experience
-
Hey guys!
I wanted to share with you an illustration I did for a slumber party contest I took part of.
Sloth slumber party is just business
-
@carlianne They are so cute! Can you tell us more about your store?
-
@nadyart I love all your illustrations and this one makes me smile. So cute!

@nadyart Awesome

I am struggling. Have been for the past few months. Combination of stresses: building new home, selling our old home during a pandemic, scared that one of the viewings might expose us to virus so disinfecting like crazy after every one,now the mad rush to get new place finished enough so we can move in, packing up and trying to avoid turning on TV cos well, you know ... 2020.
I tried drawing something yesterday and felt so defeated cos it was such crap. I am so out of practice and now I am afraid the few skills I managed to acquire in the past years have just gone poof. So if you looked over my shoulders this month - my slumped, weary shoulders - you'd find a blank page with a few meaningless scribbles. I won't bother to post it.
-
@Mara-Price I haven't opened it yet! But I am making a shopify page that can operate as my store and portfolio. I'm going to sell some greeting card prints, stickers and offer free tutorial downloads. Since I have a large instagram following I wanted to have one link in my bio that covers all those aspects, which I wouldn't have been able to get through an etsy account!
@ngrass I'd be happy to!! I just have to try printing and cutting these first to see how it goes.

@nadyart What a lovely color palette

I am currently working on a weekly challenge we do with my friend. This week's topic is Monkeys in Onsen and I thought of making a comic. I can share it once it's done, right now it's in the layout thumbnail stage. Also, I am going back to work on my inking skills a bit more again, so I am combining my Rendering in Pen and Ink book by A. L. Guptill and Jake's inking classes here on svs.

@MissMushy Don't be hard on yourself. You'll bounce back. Try to do something purposely small, like a 5 minute only sketch in your sketchbook. Do that for a few days in a row and I'll bet the juices start flowing again. Spoken from experience.
-
@MissMushy aww I am so sorry things are feeling so overwhelming for you. This will pass and you will find your footing again. Take some time out and do other things that bring you joy and rest. And when you come back start small again and make something that will bring you joy.
-
@MissMushy I couldn't agree more with what @burvantill and @Heather-Boyd said.
The same happened to me last year. I was very dissatisfied with my job and was planning to quit, which I eventually did, but I was so stressed while going through that experience that the sole idea of putting pen to paper was freaking me out. Every sketch felt like one of the 12 labors of Hercules.
So I am going to join them in saying: take it easy (also, these ARE super challenging times and nobody has the compass, so I think it's ok to feel a little lost and have to figure it out along the way), find something extra-small that brings you joy (who knows? maybe you don't need to sketch at all and you can just grab a bunch of crayons and express your feelings the Kandinsky way) and I am sure that all your creative powers will gradually awaken

With some feedback I received, I altered the Loch Ness Piece slightly
To create a warmer atmosphere, break up the green and put more focus on the little boy. -
@burvantill @Heather-Boyd @Elena-Marengoni thanks for the encouraging words. I am trying to make time for small joys during this time even though it feels like I am on an out of control roller coaster right now. Really appreciate your support
-
@nadyart I also love the look and texture of this! Out of curiosity, did you do this in Photoshop, Procreate, or something else?
-
@MissMushy I truly hope this situation will get better soon! By the way...I have discovered a super interesting blog recently: it's curated by a psychologist and touches upon topics such as productivity, emotional balance and motivation. It's helped me a lot to detect some negative thinking patterns and find ways to turn them into learning opportunities. I meant to share it earlier but forgot to, so here it is: https://nickwignall.com/articles/

Drawin' old webcomic characters playin' some zero G dodgeball.
-
@Braxton Thank you! I have drawn the boy on paper traditionally with graphite pencil, scanned him and used him as the underlayer in Photoshop. Drew on top of that and coloured in Photoshop
