I think this is the last week!

This week is multiple light sources (pretty sure the advice in the course is, 'don't paint multiple light sources, lol) and silhouette!

Reminder: Everyone's welcome to participate, but in order to have access to the classes and homework you need an SVS subscription. It's worth it.

Feel free to do digital or traditional. It's all good.

    This week!

    watch:

the bits in lighting situation pertaining to multiple light sources and silhouette.

The demo on backlighting (Demo 😎

    Homework:

Continue exercise 9 in the workbook. We all know what to do at this point, lol.

Feel free to post your work for feedback and support here!

Yeah for reals. I decided to jump to the prop design class because i need a break from theory. But will have to circle back

searching for silhouetted figures is harder than I'd have thought. The google wants to give me nothing but black cutouts on white.

Most scenic hiking vistas seem to have sohouetted figures, though πŸ™‚

This was the view from my driveway this evening while walking the dog. Multiple light sources and backlit silhouettes. I had to try. It’s pretty dark. I stood in the driveway for about 5 minutes trying to memorize it, I didn’t have my phone on me for pics, so I don’t know how close I got. The foreground bothers me the most. It’s kinda mushy. 🀨
Edit: Wow! It’s WAY darker on my phone than on my iPad.

Most multiple light sources I can find are at night and mostly street lights.

Even in photography people seem to try and find single light sources

@Braden-Hallett @burvantill Look! A silhouette! I am so sad that I had to miss this class with you guys. It looks like you have grown a great deal as artists. Inktober Day 10 Pattern.jpg

Looking at your work I can see with this piece that lil' Reb would probably be darker based on teh light source and Inky would be as well.

I found a reference for a deer on pinterest and stuck fairly close to it with exception of not painting the crow on the deer's back . silhouette. maybe a bit of scattered light influence as well

I seem to have trouble balancing things in dark situations but here's my attempt at practicing multiple light sources. I seem to have things too dark but when I lighten it, it looks washed out or not like it's nightime. It's good to practice these things and start figuring it out 🀞 anyhow here is a combo of Moonlight and a lantern on a very full wolf. Hopefully little Red made it home!!!!!

@burvantill thanks. I just realized he has dog ears and not wolf ears lol. I mistakenly represented him as a wolf. My bad ha ha πŸ˜…

Cool! Multiple light sources is REALLY hard. Most of the time I see them in photo's they don't actually influence much. They're just spots of bright in mostly darkness.

All right, ladies and gents! I think that's pretty much it!

Thanks to everyone for joining in when they could. I didn't realize that this course was QUITE so big when we started, lol.

I think I'll keep doing a mini study a day for the foreseeable future to really cement the different kinds of lighting situations we learned about.

And then at some point I'll do another class πŸ˜ƒ

Hope everyone had a good time!
