Thanks for your input @Oriana-Fernandez and @peteolczyk. I went out to clear my head and now I'll figure something out using your feedback!

I am a slow decision maker who gets a bit overwhelmed with all the options. I keep hoping it will get easier as I work more, but for now let's just say that Slowvember is my favorite monthly challenge!

I'm tentatively calling this one done. If anyone can think of any tweaks or small changes to be made at this point it would be much appreciated 🙂

In the end I dedicated myself to vary the composition somewhat. I do not know if it is much appreciated because I had to reduce the images as it was a requirement to post them. What do you think of my idea?

Here is a real quick paint over just to show what I mean. I just added a light layer and erased the parts when more contrast was needed. It is done very roughly but I hope you get the idea.

Just a suggestion tho! Do what you feel is best for your idea 🙂

Oh, and the table in the foreground is touching the carpet on the ground. So it looks like there are on the same plane.

Here are two re-dos taking your critiques into consideration 😊:

The first version has slightly darkened pants and boots. Any more, or changing the color outright (I tried gray pants and jeans), messed with the color harmony or accentuated the sharp angle at the bottom of the coat. The second version has the original pants and boots, but some adjustments to the shadows in the sage bush. In both versions I added some rocks in the foreground, but all of these are quick versions and therefore I can eliminate them with no qualms. If they become permanent I'll work them out with more care.

Slight crop. Decided to go with a more realistic figure. Cleaned up some messy parts. Moved the bird and gave it more volume.

Well, I had a vacation day, today, so I worked on cleaning up the drawing . . . and here are the flat colors.

More value/shadow work coming, I promise, and I also have some chess pieces in the works that should make it look like these friends are actually playing a game, instead of just chatting over a chess board 😄

One thing that concerns me, that I might have balanced out with the dark green of the shield: does the orc lady's hair look too dark for the overall color scheme, at the moment? I tried lightening it a little from what it was before, but I think it might pop a bit much, especially in comparison with our lovely pale elf on the left.

@KaraDaniel I am with @TessaW on wanting to scrap all my ideas LOL. I think you hit that "This is the worst piece ever phase." But I find even if I don't like it and I still push through it will come out and be something you are happy with. So with that, stay strong and push through. You are almost there!

@KaraDaniel I think this new version is great. The darker city really makes the colorful house stand out, and the added smoke really does punch up the point of tbe city being dirty and polluted

I agree about the angle, it's so steep that it's almost disoreinting/dizzying. I like that you aren't doing it straight on, but maybe just less steep?

Here is the latest progress.

I'm learning how to use Affinity Photo at the same time as I'm piecing this one together. I keep sketching in my sketchbook, then snap a photo and upload it, cut, paste and adjust it into place. It's forcing me to learn the program bit by bit as I have to look up how to everything first.

I'm liking how my scribbles are turning into something understandable. I think I'm going to keep a running list of the items I draw, as I clarify them into detail, so I have my final 50+ "Can you find it?" list when I'm done. Much more refining to go!

It depends on what sort of character you want her to have. You have so much character in the other figures! If she's a mousy type, you can exaggerate her inwardly-turned feet, maybe giving her a slightly hunched posture. You have such a nice diva on the right that maybe there's some intimidation going on? Or maybe the girl in front is more of a type A (if you change her face a little, make her dart her eyes towards the diva, and give her a more dynamic pose) and is intent on keeping the diva in her place!

I also might make the child look up a bit, since he's obviously a little shy. You've already got so much character potential going here. Play it up!
