@gary-wilkinson thank you for taking the time to further explain your comments. I understand where you are coming from on the interaction of the characters. I will work on that. I do like your sketch idea and may use something similar for additional posters. Yes a lot of these newer posters are very generic and similar in terms of layout and that is what i was trying to emulate with this poster. I agree the older posters are so much better in terms of design.

@holleywilliamson That's not a bad question. The bad answer is: I am not sure.

I will have 5 characters to put into the town so I'm guess that the main focal point will be the Trader (she will be standing in front of that cart). Then the eye will swirl around to the blacksmith, farmer, inn keeper and alchemist. Maybe.

And of course, the title of the game will be on the box (lower left) as well.

@smithdraws Thanks for your advice and for letting me know about those books. It looks like they've already executed a lot of the ideas I was brainstorming. Even if I were to change it to an original superhero, and have it be Halloween based, I'm afraid it would be to redundant.

@felipeonodera I think that's a healthy attitude. Keep your passion for comics, but follow opportunity where it takes you. Following passion can be dangerous if there's no opportunity there. The most successful people I know are people who followed really good opportunities that overlapped their passion at some point.

I have a friend who loves film, loves watching films, loves making films. He went to film school, graduated, but he never had much success in filmmaking. After years of being stuck he decided to go to business school, learn marketing, and get a job in the film industry marketing films. He's so much happier now. He found more opportunity for his own strengths on the marketing side of film and he gets to be in an industry he loves.

I think there's room in publishing, film, comics, animation, and video games for all kinds of different creative people You should look into it some more.

great looking scene here. Good looking line work and detail. One thing though, your 3rd vanishing point lines are all over the place. Make sure that 3rd point is far away and make sure everything goes to that point. Right now everything is drawn so well that the angles on that are really throwing it off.

thanks @Laurie . yes, struggle is the word.
Looking back, I'm sure I have improved over the last year but it's still so painful for me to color an illustration
Here it is tonight. I'm going to let it sit for a day now and look at it with fresh eyes later, but I'm not too displeased with the result so far (I'm saying this now and I could hate it in 2 days ^_^ )

@DOTTYP thanks so much! I used the watercolor textures from the mixed media class. And worked with a watercolor brush from Lee White's custom brushes class.

@Jake-Parker Thanks for the comments — I can't tell you how pivotal SVS and especially your Youtube posts have been. So much of the fight artistically is psychological. I'm definitely going to be doing more of these, I want to experiment with more techniques and rendering styles; all quick and dirty brush, tight penwork, and mixing up some of the Robert Valley technique with zip-a-tone using the new Kyle Webster Halftone brushes.

I'm still amazed how far tools have come, in another life and a decade + ago I used to draw ashcan comics. Buying those zip-a-tone stickers were expensive!

@Jake-Parker Thank you Jake. 🙂 The idea was that the cape would have a liquid/flowing feel to it to remind the viewer of blood, the author liked it, so I will consider it a success.
