@mattramsey Matt I am so glad you took Lee's advice to heart and went in and kept pushing the values. This latest update has so much more visual impact and is so much more dynamic now. Excellent work!

@evilrobot I have that white pen too- I tried putting Dr. Martin's white ink in a water brush and the results were... not good. 🙂

@Rich-Green that's a good idea. Then I could put him in shadow and have a nice strong rim light and fill out his form with a bounce light...thanks for the insight.

great work, what did you quote for the job?

Introducing green. I was originally planning to do another complete wash or glaze with this color, but I kept it for the shadows. I'm really inexperienced when it comes to rendering, colour and such, so this all very new to me.

I will say that it didn't strike me as "Snow White" however. I don't know if that should matter, but I guess the snow white character and the dwarves were far removed from my preconceived notions of them. (Grated that is HEAVILY influenced by Disney.)

But I think that what you're doing is better/more original.

Aww gee shucks. As the story develops and I add more drawings, I'm hoping it will be more Snow-White in essence. It's not just Disney I want to distance myself however, but also the general Grimm's fairy tale look. I'm hoping this will turn more like Snow-White meets the Kalevala 😃

But this is just wishful thinking at the moment. I'm moving to my student dorm tomorrow in Falmouth, and I'll finally be near a reliable printer to scan my drawings.

Please let me know latter on Shams if the story resembles Snow-White more. Cheers! 🙂

as for wordpress, I use the tiled mosaic gallery, so I can move the illustrations around as I want but I basically tried to pick a way that was more appealing visually. I will look into the other option you talked about

@Rich-Green sales are kinda "meh". We are pretty much in the black but we didn't sell as many as we thought at the big event. I do not have them up on Amazon so maybe that would be an idea. I just sent in a copy to a publishing house that is tied in with my church organization and when their board meets they will review it and see if they want to carry it in their store.

In the meantime we are selling a copy here, a copy there to various contacts around the country (word of mouth type sales).

All that said, it was pretty much a vanity project from the beginning meaning that the idea was more: let's make a book that we can hold in our hands versus let's have a huge commercial success (of course, a huge commercial success would be great).

I learned a lot in the process and I'm definitely planing on making more books.

Beautiful work! The mermaid is beautifully shaded, very delicately done, love the colour palette that you chose for it...the bookmark is a lovely design too 🙂
