@Mariana-B yeah it is the word bubble icon next to the notification bell. press it and then hit all chats, then enter my name in the search bar to start a chat 🙂

@AthenaBeana if you didn't know about the chat function, that is an option, i understand it is nerve-racking to share stuff! i'm nice though and if you tell me what you are going for and what sort of feedback you want I promise not to get intense!

I have loved reading and making comics and graphic novels since I was little, so I've made it the focus of my research as a graduate student. Right now, I'm gathering responses to a 15-minute survey to learn what people enjoyed about reading graphic novels when they were in middle school. To participate, you need to be 18-32 years old and have enjoyed reading at least one graphic novel in middle school (this can be books like Amulet and Bone, Japanese manga, or even European comics like TinTin). Four random participants will also receive a $25 Amazon gift card. Here is the link: https://ttucomc.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3E0lbWyenykZC7A
I know many people don't fit the criteria for this study, but sharing this link with someone who does would also be a great help.

@Melissa_Bailey I read the arrival and I think it is a more niche example ,but it is indeed a graphic novel! Astounding as all Shaun Tan work

I’d have to agree with @randarrington right now most of these sound a little busy, to me. I do like his suggestion of cosmic pirates, it’s a little less dense, it sounds like a band I’d be into lol. The tales from another universe sounds like a great addition to a title. COSMIC PIRATES- Tales From Another Universe

Looks amazing. I love the characters' expressions, colour choices and muted backgrounds.

If you don't mind, can you share a bit about how you decided on the edges, shapes and gradations for the blue-purply backgrounds?

I really like how they are are kind of abstract and atmospheric at the same time- would love to know a bit more on your process for those.

@Mr-NiftyRat said in Dummy & process for a WORDLESS GRAPHIC NOVEL:

      ul t

Preface by saying I am not an expert!! But I have been reading up on this and working on a dummy myself. It does have some wordless pages. Formatting this into dummy script was the most annoying part because it's the least "fun" but it's better than having to mock up an entire book. There are a few ways to do this apparently so it's malleable, this is how I did mine:
      Page 1/ Chapter 1
      Panel 1
A sundog, newly rolls off of a cloud, tumbling head over heels through the sky
      Panel 2
A sun puppy, with reflections of gold and rainbow, he plays in the sky, becoming more puppy-like and less cloudy.
      Panel 3
King Finvarra smiles at the sky. He holds a bound book and walks to sit under the tree of knowledge.
      Page 2
      Panel 1
The tree is large and the sunlight under it is dappled and sparkling. He seems patient, old, and wise with intricate faerie wings and a crown inspired by spring branches.
      Panel 2-4
Finvarra settles in under the tree and opens the book. The book is blank. An inkwell and quill appear in mid-air next to the book and King Finvarra dips the quill and writes “Once upon a time...”

I should maybe be going in to even more detail per panel but I am honestly hoping to get more feedback about it once I start querying it. I have 50 pages done per panel and page like this with the rest of the book in a synopsis.

Another note I heard from Kids Comics Unite is that Dark Horse has a good method for this https://www.darkhorse.com/Help/FAQ/submissions check the sample script link

I love wordless graphic novels and I wish they were around more or I had thought of them when I was a kid trying to get my reluctant reader brother to like books.

Get a copy of Will Eisner's books - Graphic Storytelling and Visual Narrative as well as Comics and Sequential Art.

Those are the Bible on graphic novels for story and art. Eisner invented the medium (and he was a great guy too!)

After that, start a graphic novel and do whatever else you need to in order to pay the bills.
