So I made a character design for the Queen of Hearts in a Rococo style, and Lee White critiqued it in the "How to Fix Your Art" series. So now I'm picking it back up and gonna redraw it. But I need to know if it needs any changes or additions to be an interesting picture.

    Here's the original:

Here's @Lee-White sketch of how I could redraw:

And here is what I'm working on:

@kayleenartlover I like this almost drag queen-esque look for her, so I hope you don't lose that in your remake. I would say just push her expression a lot more, more of her hair flying loose of its restraints, even angrier face (might be good to practice in the mirror, haha), her eyes just blazing with rage! Her body language has to also reflect that. The hand holding the scepter looks too relaxed, I thought she would be clenching it. And definitely have her interacting and venting her rage on Alice or the soldiers or something, it doesn't tell the story so well if she is venting at the viewer. Good luck!

I feel like Lee's suggestion is not really what I would go for.
A side view to express anger and emotion does not necessarily work better, as you will show much less of the face, and it is also less immersive.

I think the addition of a second character (receiving the emotion) is great though. Wherever it is in side view or front view.

Whichever view I'd chose, I would personally try to make the scene/character feel a bit more dimensional; and use the lines that show in that view to exaggerate the emotion (e.g. in side view, you can really play with the line of action/spine of the character; in front view, you can really play with converging lines towards the receiving character).

I wonder if having the viewer replace Alice could work? Even putting a border and have her hair and arms pop out of it to give a 3D effect...

@kayleenartlover while I like this pov, I think Alice is too confident in her Body position. I think she’d be scared with the angry queen coming at her, and I think you can push her gesture to display what we can’t see on her face more.

Not quite sure how I can make Alice look more scared? Her hair is gonna cover her shrugged shoulders...

It's great that you're revisiting your character design! To make it an interesting picture, consider adding intricate details to the Queen of Hearts' costume and incorporating elements that reflect her personality. Enhance the composition with dynamic poses or a compelling background. Experiment with color schemes and lighting to evoke the Rococo style. Overall, strive for a visually captivating portrayal that captures the essence of the Queen of Hearts.

@kayleenartlover good job! Keep at it. Was just thinking how would it be if you would have Alice looking down or away a bit more? Since we don't really see her shoulders, since they are covered by her hair, she comes across more defiant than scared.

It’s so close to being done! I just need to figure out how to add a pattern detail to the skirt and see what type of lighting/shadows would look best if needed for this illustration.
